Why is our slide raised?

The big slide in our main living area, containing a u-shaped table and jackknife sofa, is on a raised platform. Iíd like to chuck both the booth (waste of space for just two of us) and the sofa (too small to lie on and no reclining). But Iím wondering if we can ditch the platform, too, so that it is nearly even with the main floor.
Any idea if there might be any mechanical/electrical items under the booth? I know there is nothing under the sofa but the frame, as it is accessible from outside. Iíd check myself, but itís at a seasonal site and we donít have access right now.

The picture below shows what Iím talking about. Thanks!

You can't.
There's rollers under there, plus a flange that your slide uses to stop. Probably some other structural items.

You won't be able to modify the outer shell of your slide without significant other modifications to the rest of the unit.

You most likely have above floor slide mechanism, like Blackfly says, there would be a fair amount of modifications to do.

Nope......you canít ditch the raised platform to level.

However......you could tell others that you have a sunken living room in your rig.

All the manufacturers are trying to be first with the next new idea.

Just sayiní.

it’s the ‘floor’ of the slide, without it you’d have no way for the furniture to slide out with it - it also adds the structural integrity to the slide room ‘box’ ...

you can always buy an Airstream with no slides ( :

or you can order a Newell - built from scratch, custom, and the slide floors are ‘flat’... get up a good downpayment, and wait several years for it to be built

raised slide

I asked about that at my dealers. The light weight units have the slide mechanisms above the floor level. therefore you cannot lower it.
Fortunately I have the heavier Cherkee and was able to do mods to mine.

I'd take the booth and sofa out - add a couple of rocking, reclining chairs and an adjustable table and ta-da, new camper!

Yes, you will have to take in consideration the raised floor, but if you can findnsome low chairs, that will make them about the right height. If the table is ADJUSTABLE, that can also adjust with the height.
