2006 Dynamax battery charging question
2006 dynaquest 32. As a new owner I am finding out how the coach works by trial and error. Are the house batteries suppose to charge when the coach is running? Mine do not. Searching the threads I see the newer coaches have a BIRD, do the 2006 units have a similar setup?
If not I would like to install an aftermarket battery isolator to charge the house batteries. whiles driving. Will installing this affect the shore power charging system?
I did not receive much information from the previous owner on the battery system other that the house batteries were new.

No familiar with you coach. That said, I’ve owned 8 motor homes over the years and they all charged the coach battery’s while running.

If you go to this page...
https://dynamaxcorp.com/brochures
At the bottom, there are "archived brochures". Drop down your year and there might be some info that helps.

In your electrical bay, mounted to the wall should be a black rectangular box with a bunch of red wires hooked to it,just above another box with color coded plugs, the top one is your battery isolator, which controls the charging,if you dont have this system,it would be a solonoid mounted on the back wall that controls it,if it is tjhe first system,we do still these in stock.

2006 Dynamax battery charging question
Thanks for the reply. See photo for the electrical panel. I checked all the fuses with a meter, all good. Checked both banks of battery voltage. Started the engine and no change on house battery voltage. Starting battery charging. Checked house batteries with inverter/battery disconnect on/off, no charging. Batteries do charge when connected to shore power. Where do I go from here?

Check the purple wire on the top solenoid for an ignition signal,if none is found, search for an ignition signal in the bay, there will be one somewhere, sorry but its been a long time since I have seen one of these, once you find an ignition signal, hook it onto the purple wire, this will remedy your issue, the problem is that part of the circuit board is not working correctly, this will bypass the issue.

My sister-in-laws Dynamax also would not charge her house batteries while driving. I found the battery isolator was bad it was in the battery compartment. It is a small aluminum fined box that the battery cable hooks to and another cable goes out. It only allows power to flow one way

2006 Dynamax charging question
Thanks for all the replies. No finned battery isolator anywhere. I think its time to take it to a professional for diagnoses. It apparent there has been work done one the system in the past.

Your system is similar to that in my 2009. In the attached replica of your photo, see the red rectangle I have placed surrounding your solenoid and its bi-directional relay. The solenoid is on the top and the black plastic relay is bolted to the bottom of the solenoid. Further see the arrow that points to the part number on the lower half of the photo that says "BD Relay." Zoom in and do a search for the part number and I believe you will determine it is an Intelitec relay/solenoid combination for less than $100.
I understand that once your chassis batteries are fully charged by the engine alternator that this relay then engages the solenoid and allows the alternator to charge the house batteries - - but not before the chassis batteries are fully charged. After driving your rig and the chassis batteries are charged, put a volt meter across the house batteries to determine if they are charging. Certain of the online vendors have good descriptions of the relay/solenoid function.

2006 Dynamax charging question
After troubleshooting with a friend we changed out the top solenoid and the engine charged house batteries.
Thanks for all the replies.
