2021 Dynamax Isata 3 1000 watt inverter upgrade to 2000 watt inverter

[QUOTE=bclemens;2630648]They were a mid-model year change in 2021, but primarily focused on making sure we had them running completely by 2022MY.

Brian - I LOVE my 2021 Dynamax Isata 3 "Boogie Wagon", but have questions/concerns regarding functionality.

I cannot make coffee in the morning with my Kuerig in my Boogie Wagon with only my 1000 Magnum inverter (I have no idea what Keurig you were using in 2018):

"I had them test it with a hair dryer. residential...not travel size. It worked on low and medium. High it would trip, but then reset once it went back to low.
I also had them test it with a Keurig...which was my main concern as I do not use a hair dryer, nor am I sure why you would ever use a hair dryer when camping.
Its a Magnum 1000 watt pure sine wave…”

I "downgraded" to an electric hot water maker so I can make coffee with a French press. On my most recent trip my inverter tripped trying to heat water for my French press!! Apparently, I was only days away from getting the 2000-watt inverter as standard issue. Can I plug and play a 2000-watt inverter for my sub-par 1000-watt Magnum inverter? Or are there other things that need to be upgraded?

The last 6 digits of my VIN (for reference are) 041052

A 2000 should work, plug and play...but simpler would be a lower wattage keurig.

Keurig 35 B30, is about 800 watts.

There are also several threads online about this same topic. Many people swear by this one at 700 watts. https://www.amazon.com/CHULUX-Single...jaz10cnVl&th=1

I used a dorm one (single cup). Don't remember what model, but it is sitting in the service lounge at the plant now.

The b35 is the one we use. Not sure it’s made
any more, ours is as old as the hills.

Should work?

Could I get a little more assurance for the switch out? Did you guys have to redo any wiring when you made the mid-model year upgrade?
Any possible pitfalls I'm not seeing?

Thx!

This is the one I have. 700 watts. I have a 3000 watt inverter, but I like this one because it doesn’t draw the battery’s down as much.

We have the go joe coffeemaker. Pour in hot water from the gas stove, it uses Kehrig cups!

A 2000 watt inverter requires heavier wire. The wire should have a 200 amp breaker. My kid experimented with this. He used 2/0. Keep in mind an inverter that size also looses about 15% converting dc to ac. American made welding wire. Some run a matching second wire to the original.

Without changing wires it might not work. Also depends on the length of the wire.

Go big!

Unfortunately no, I can't really give you more assurance for an aftermarket change. There are far too many variables.

I do know that when we changed from a 1000 watt to a 2000 watt, we had more power available to us, so we went to 20 amp outlets and heavier wire (12-2 vs 14-2) because we added additional outlets. As long as you keep it set up for 15 amp outlets (which I think you would have) then it would have a breaker or for 15 amps at the inverter. Also might need heavier 12V wires to the inverter. Sometimes we "oversize" them, but that varies.

If you are not comfortable with this as a DIY, then I would hire a licensed electrician who can verify that the installation meets electrical code.

The Magnum CSW1012 1K Inverter output is rated at 8.3 AC Amps, the Magnum CS2012 2K Inverter output is rated at 16.6 AC Amps. Most of the Outlet Circuit Breakers in the Isata3 are 15A with 20A for the Microwave and Air Conditioner. Just keep the loads below 15A to any circuit is my opinion.

I swapped out my 1K Magnum Inverter for a 2K Magnum Inverter 4 years ago and have had zero problems. I am very careful to keep all draws below 15A and I did replace the Inverter Circuit Breaker in the Battery Compartment from a 150A to a 200A. I monitor my electrical system with a Victron BMV-712 Monitor on Bluetooth to my smart phone.

The Inverters were a direct swap out but a little tight for the larger 2K. If I run the Inverter at or near 15A I leave the Bay Door open for cooling. The Inverter has 2 plug receptacles and I keep a short pigtail on the one that is not used to run a heavy extension cord to if I choose.

Exactly the info I was looking for. Thx so much!

Mlmay12 - for clarification, you said you upgraded the 150A circuit breaker for a 200A. Did you use the same MFG? I have an MP 150A 48VDC, checking their website, MP with the same footprint only makes 200A 30VDC. Did you switch to a different MFG or use the lower volt?
