2108 Jeep Wrangler Toad 12VDC Coach charge line?

Hello all,
I’m towing my 2018 Jeep Wrangler but discovered a dead battery after two days of driving. I have installed the 7 pin wiring interface but did not connect to the center pin which I understand can be used to charge the toad while towing.

Can I just connect that 12 VDC line direct to the toad battery or do I need a battery charger?

If I can go direct that would include an in-line fuse for protection. I’m just not clear if that coach source is a proper charge line or not when connected direct.

I’ll likely order a DC to DC charger but if I can’t get it in time to leave (tomorrow), then I may need to remove a fuse on the Jeep. Anyone know which fuse to pull to keep it from discharging while being towed?

I have a 2108 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited Rubicon.

Thanks in advance as always.

Heading back to SoCal from Austin on Friday.

Cheers,

RVI in Colorado makes a nice battery charger for toads. It utilizes the 12v hot from the 7 way hitch plug. easy to install. I bought an extra one for our enclosed trailer, it charges the trailer battery while we drive.

At the end of the day of driving just turn off the brake buddy and run the engine for a while to charge the battery until you wire it up

Here is a link to the charge line kit from etrailer.com. Works great and I found it very easy to install. Took about 30 minutes.

Was concerned about draining the toad battery (2016 Cherokee) as the notice with the FCA paid modification to have power steering on with ignition off said it would drain the battery in three hours. A RV shop in Missouri said they could run a hot line to the Jeep battery. The RV's socket already provided the 12V so they only had to run a line from the power cable from the socket on the Jeep through a fuse holder to the battery. Has worked perfectly.

The center pin on a 7 pin connector is aux pin usually wired for backup lights.
There is a fused pin for +12 volts, bottom left I believe looking at the vehicle plug.

Never heard of a 12v to 12v charger.

I towed my Jeep for the first time last weekend. It is not the center pin on the 7 way but there is a 12 volt constant. I ran that wire to my Jeep battery with an inline fuse. I'm not sure how much power my RVi3 brake systems pulls but the Jeep battery was fine.

The kit I referenced in Post #4 instructs you to attach the lead to the Center Pin on the 6 pin connector going into the Jeep on both a Blue Ox system or a RoadMaster system. It then attaches to a small relay and then from the relay to the battery. The small connector at the Jeep is not a 7 pin, generally it is a 6 pin. The 7 pin is plugged into the coach.
