A/C Shroud in White

Waaaaay back in the day, A/C's were always white. Then, with the prevalence of full body paint, we started using black A/C shrouds as it looked better with paint.

Then, people got tired of carrying both, so we all decided to go to black shrouds since the awning was black, the windows, door trim, etc.

So flash forward to today, some A/C companies are starting to use "high gloss" shrouds that seem to look better, white or black.

The question is, if you have full body paint....would you be OK with a white shroud? I just think with the heat, maybe a black shroud, while aesthetically pleasing, might not make the most sense, functionally speaking?

High Gloss White, High Gloss Black, don't care? Or I don't think it makes the A/C work any better.

I vote black. Even in gloss, the white would look out of place.

I dont believe the a/c shroud makes a great deal of difference as to color but maxxair vents in black radiate considerable heat down through ceiling vents in the heat of summer. You may want to consider a foam block in them

Although I think mojoe has a different reason for wanting white , I also feel with a white roof, all white accessories would blend better.

Definitely white on a white roof especially with the Light Xplorer paint job on the ISATA-5s.

to be clear picking white or black by paint color is not really a choice. It's hard enough to get an A/C, let alone picking color. So it would be all white or all black. No mix (at least at this time)

As a minor note, you can't really see the white roof from the ground and we paint UP onto the roof for the first 12" or so.

...and if you're looking at the roof, the solar panels only come in black so everything else is moot.

I do agree that the fans might have heat but a white cover also lets in more light.

I say go back to painting the roof and ACs! That was an option right?

But no I think white makes sense for a lot of reasons. With the prevalence of drones these days maybe the way it blends with the roof isn't all that out of line.

I can't say I'd be offended by either when standing on the ground.

Haha, I think you understand me well! However, even if I had a regular type of Dynamax paint job I would still vote for white. I’ll try anything to maybe soak up a little less heat…probably a minor difference, but, at this point, I would take any little bit of help.

I would vote White also. Any reflection of heat, on a hot day, is a good thing.

I sprayed mine white..who cares if your roof accessories match..white has got to be a few degrees cooler than black.

I prefer white - anything to reduce solar load is good.

However, most white plastic is less UV resistant than colored - coloring agents almost always increase UV robustness in plastic. Maybe the shiny white has some additional UV resistance over the plain white.

I recall someone at the rendezvous was worried having a two color roof during the drone pictures, but turns out it did not show in the photos.

Since I have a drone I’ll have to paint my solar panels white too

It’s just me but I think this looks a lot better in black, classier.

But given the way Dynamax switched to a goofy looking box rear end, I suspect I’m in the minority on this one. I bought my Isata 5 to separate myself from the rest, not look like the rest.

I feel there is far too much white on my roof already should be more black.

I'd vote black. When you look at the rig looking up from the ground, the black blends with the full body paint. I don't think the white would look as classy.

Gloss White offers the greatest albedo, keeping things a few degrees cooler. The A/C benefits.
