A/C works but not through vents

I'm obviously doing something wrong because the A/C works but when I close the ducts directly from the unit the air does not come through the vents which is how my other unit worked. Can someone help?

Brian. In an attempt to see what was going on I removed the cover and looked into the chamber where the cool air is discharged. All four of the sides are taped. Is this correct? In my previous unit one of the sides was open to the duct system.

I have to think if all 4 sides are taped then access to your ducting blocked.

It sure would appear that way but before I do anything I need to make sure I'm not looking at it wrong.

Is it a brand new unit and the air has never been used?

That is correct. It was 42 degrees when we picked it up ant the heat was on but it was coming out of the floor vents. First time the A/C has been on.

Ive never had a cover off, but sounds possible something could of not gotten pulled off the unit at the factory. some sort of plasctic dust and debris stopper that just needs to be pulled off? packaging material?

Dealer should of checked the air before pick up/unless they did and didnt have it vented. easy miss i guess?

I am not sure of the a/c duct construction....any chance it could be a non-ducted unit. Model no will tell all.

That's just wrong. Take off the tape.

I was speaking of the a/c unit. Not the RV, but it's a cheap check.

I took the plunge and started removing tape and it appears that they just taped up everything at the factory. Ducts working fine now but I have to get some replacement tape because I had a 50 50 chance of removing correct side and missed. Tape is not made to be removed.

Don't understand "correct side". Did you remove tape to ducts that don't go anywhere? Or did you not want all of the ducts 'turned on'?

The discharge area has 4 sides. One is a common divider with the intake. Three chances and I found the correct side on the second try. I think the A/C unit is designed to discharge out of any of the three sides depending on the setup of the coach it is installed in. The unused sides are covered with a heavy duty tape.

On my Charleston I checked the same thing as my front right side vents were not blowing as hard as the rest. I removed the inside A/C cover and found that there are two air passages one on the left side and one on the right side. These are on the rear on the back half of the unit, the front half is the return air. I found that on the right side there was a flap of the vinyl ceiling fabric blocking the flow. I removed the blockage and then used the silver metal tape and made sure all seams were covered and no air leaks on entire unit on both sides, discharge and return. I did the same thing on the bedroom unit and found the left side had same problem. Now all the vents blow great.

Now you have me wondering. I did look on the other side but it appeared that only one side fed the ducts. Brain can you chime in on this?

As I stated , the vents are on the rear of the unit the side with the squirrel cage blower motor. On mine the duct work is about 3 inches X 6 inches. For quick cool you open the grate on ac cover and then once cooled down or warmed up if it is on heat pump close grate and it direct's all the air out ceiling vents. Now my coach is a 2007 so things might be different on your new one. But again on mine there is a right side and a left side on each unit.

My guys tell me the two sides would feed the duct. You should see two runs on either side of the AC running the length of the coach.

A/C issues resolved. On the front unit the installers taped over the openings going to the ducts. The fix was easy but I had to remove both the cover and the base part of the unit. On the rear unit the ducts were correct but the baffle that separates the intake chamber from the exhaust chamber was never installed. I was just laid inside the chambers. It needed to be trimmed to correct height to compensate for the thickness of the roof and it had not even been trimmed yet. Again an easy fix but still had to remove the same parts. Kinda looked to me like the folks installing the A/C units were asleep that day or in a huge hurry. I was glad I had the installation instructions.
