Added a Grille Guard

I just installed a ReTrac grille guard on my DynaQuest to add protection if we ever have a front end accident or hit an animal.

It was an easy install except that the mounting brackets which fit my 2022 DynaQuest are for a Freightliner Cascadia not a M2 112. All websites and catalogs listed the wrong mounting brackets for a Freightliner M2 112.

After getting the wrong brackets, I contacted ReTrac and we figured out which brackets I needed.

Then came the hassle of trying to convince the online store I purchased the wrong brackets from, to take them back.

But, in the end I got the correct brackets from another online vendor and the finished product looks great.Click image for larger version

Looks awesome! I hope to do something similar this coming year. Any plans to upgrade lighting now that you have the new real estate to mount it??

Shame - another hopeful. But I do agree that just by installing one of these you are not going to hit anything. Like insurance, if you don't have it the wrath of Hades will ensue but once one pays the annual dues, the aura of protection increases.

These grills are largely ornamental. Hit anything but a fawn, the bars end up embedded in your engine compartment along with the deer. BTDT and was educated. There are some that are robust enough to withstand the initial impact and direct the animal under, to the side and even onto the hood (sheet metal so less costly) but they are heavy, ugly and can interfere with cooling. Just look at the military installations which despite one's hopes are not designed to deal with vehicles or construction but rather just the same sort of bio product as a deer but in quantities of 2 or 3.....

Needs to be something like this to take on a deer.

Have a friend living in Alaska. He refers to heavy duty bumpers like this as a -"Moose "Masher".

Some truck drivers I've talked to over the years want something like this to keep the animal they hit from bending body and stock bumper back and jamming the ability to steer.

X-Guard bumper guard, and Caliber-9 grill with Baja driving lights.
Love the setup. The bumper guard hinges forward with quick clips to allow for tipping engine cover forward. Very easy and tight. No rattles.
I pondered the larger guard but ruled it out due to weight (and cost).

Added a Grille Guard

Looks good, everything matches nicely. Would be nice to mount some type of flat step to wash the hood etc…

Its only practical use other than adding weight and preventing damage from hitting small animals and people !

Very cool but nothing beats the Buckstop bumper. 1/4” Steel. Has mount for winch. Tougher than the coach.

Those Roo guards are almost universal in Australia. Lots of kangaroos where you live?

Wow that’s not a guard that’s a fortress such a beautiful rig. I understand the need be nice to have a low bar To push through and not the top bar.

In the event of striking something heavier than a small kangaroo grill guards can defeat the front airbags and lessen front end crushability (if that's a word) diminishing passenger protection. They're a trade-off. They look boss of course.

Friends in Australia refer to those as "Bong Bars". Why "Bong"? Because that's the sound they make when they hit a kangaroo!

Took a night bus ride to the outback once...
Driver stated... "We are NOT allowed to swerve to miss Kangaroos or other wild life."

every once in a while... especially when finally dozing off...
could hear the 'bong' then something thumping / rolling under the bus floor

Not nice trip... never travel at night

Aussie bar designs generally try and protect the headlights as well.
