Adding safety chains to a propane tank to help keep it from falling to the road

Remember this thread from October 2023? https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...er-270546.html

A 2023 Europa owner found one end of their propane tank had fallen down and was almost hitting the ground due to missing nuts on the mounting bolts.

A similar failure mode has affected some later model Georgetowns when the front mounting bracket welds failed or the rear mounting bracket partially cracked.

Since both model tanks are lifted up from underneath and bolted to the bottom of the 90-degree mounting brackets I thought Dynamax owners might be interested in what I did to help secure our Georgetown ASME tank.

For less than $40 in parts and maybe two hours, including the driving time to and from the hardware store, I added safety chains to each "corner" of the tank. Yes, the attached PDF has lots of pictures.

Note that the Georgetown, at least ours, uses 7/16" bolts that are 2 1/2" long so that's what I specified in the attached PDF. If you decide to do something similar to your Dynamax you should confirm the size and length of the existing mounting bolts. Or perhaps Brian could find out.

Hope this helps someone out.

Ray

Keep safety in the front of your mind all the time.
I like the screw on clamps that hold down propance tanks. If there is any question about them coming loose, by all means add a safety chain.
The item that makes me nervous is solar panels on RV roofs. They need tethers in case the attachments fail. A solar panel coming at your windshield is really dangerous.
