Cool Anyone else remove your CB?

Hi all... we removed the CB from our Force, and are pondering what to do with the hole. It's not a standard din size, so a din pocket doesn't really work. We're contemplating building a basic wooden box and trimming it out to fit in the remaining hole, but I'm curious what others have done.
If you took out your CB radio, what did you put there, instead?

Freightliner actually makes a little plastic "cubby" that fits that hole. That is how they come on the smallest chassis I think? Though I do not know the part number.

Keep the CB since we deleted it for 2022...you can trade someone the CB for their plastic insert. On the M2 (bigger ones) I think it only has a cover plate. The europa chassis I think has the plastic recess/shelf.

I don't know if I ever figured out why.

Thanks, Brian!
I did check Freightliner's accessories pages and didn't have any luck finding a cubby- and any search with 'cb' in the title, returned....... cb radios and parts, lol.
Maybe someone will want to trade at some point, lol. For now, the CB is tucked into a safe corner under the bed.

I took mine out also. Didn't work well anyway.

I also contacted Freightliner and got the panel that is blank (no hole)
I think part number is 22-58996-001. It is listed as "panel oregon burl"

I then have mounted a switch for my dashcam and it has become a handy place to attach my cell phone holder to (using suction cup attachment)

FWIW, once I get our new XL, I'm open to some trading??

I want a CB in our rig.

So do I. Going to have one installed with NOAA channels as soon as we get ours. CB's work fine when properly calibrated and with a quality antenna. Truckers use them in emergencies - weather, crashes, or delays. I like to know what's going on so we monitor the CB. Had one in our Force and on two occasions we were provided with good information when stopped on interstates.

You could also mount USB charging outlets in the blank panel.

Thumbs up

Thanks all.
Our Force has a plethora of USB outlets... literally, so many outlets- I can reach 6 from my seat alone. I do like the idea of a phone mount, and have mentioned it to dh a few times, too.

I think we're going to custom build a wooden box to put in the hole- it'll be nice to have a spot to keep some letter sized items.

We have reservations for the meetup in Colorado in September; if we can make it (that is, if our high school senior's schedule doesn't interfere) we'd be open to some trading!

We camp several times a year with friends and usually convoy. We all have CB radios. I mounted a separate no ground plane antenna on the passenger side mirror arm.

Recently I installed a GMRS radio which for us has way better range. The unit in my rig has 40 watts I believe compared to 4 for the CB.

Nice to see another GMRS user here. It is definitely gaining popularity and is quite useful when you have a set group of people. I like GMRS when I've got a group together and then CB for traffic and such on the highway.

I also have my Amateur Radio license and a commercial license.

I just need to find some time to install radios in my Isata 5. The interior part is easy since I have a ram 2500 and already know where to mount stuff, but the RV has less options for antenna mounting. My pickup has 2 antennas on the roof and 1 on a fender mount. So far all I can do on the I5 is a fender mount and they only make it for 1 side.

I just went to Lowe’s and picked up some sheet metal cut to fit and then covered it with a wrap. [ATTACH]

We ended up building and installing a wooden cubby -at a slight incline- and adding a powered USB port as well. We can charge tps without wires being in the way. Also ran another cable under the dash over by the driver’s side door for an easily visible but out of the way place for DH’s cell phone.

We also went with a GMRS radio. Also installed one in the toad. Now we have the kids drive ahead in the jeep and scout for us a good place to pull off the highway and boondock.
