Atwood A/C Heat Pump No Heat

Stopped over night. Plugged into electrical and turned the thermostat to heat. Specifically turned off the button for furnace. The Atwood never kicked on, only the furnace. Turned it to cool and the Atwood came on. Turned it back to heat and the Atwood turned off and the furnace turned on. Am I doing something wrong to get my rooftop a/c heat pump to give heat? Or, am I mistaken about my unit being a heat pump as well as an air conditioner?

What thremostat do you have?
Is there a selection for heat pump?
What made you believe you have the heat pump option?
Also... heat pump and heat strip are different from each other too.

Depending on where you were at last night, the temps may have been too low for the heat pump to work, and then it goes straight to furnace.

If you select the furnace button, it uses the furnace only for heat instead of selecting heat-pump first, then furnace.

The cut-off temperature between the unit using heat-pump vs furnace is 45 degrees. Below this, it will automatically select the furnace.

As said before, heat pumps do not work when the temperature falls below 45 degrees. They are used to take the chill off on cool mornings or days when you will most likely wear a sweater when indoors.

Angry Atwood Customer Service

I can assure you that if you call Atwood customer service your experience will be less than enlightening .....My new Atwood Air Command heat pump would not heat and numerous calls by me then after taking it back to the installing dealer he got no where with them....The agents read from a script and have no clue about how things work.....In the heat pump mode the evaporator fan never shuts off. My compressor will only run for 1-2 minutes at a time in heat mode but works fantastically in cool mode.....

I went to school for heating and air conditioning so I had an idea what the problem was but Atwood emphatically told me it was designed to work that way. By they way they told both me and the installer that there was NO wiring diagram for the unit....NOTHING is ever built without a wiring diagram of some sort. Trying to troubleshoot the unit is near impossible.

In short advise all your friends to DO NOT BUY AN ATWOOD AIR COMMAND A/C
HEAT PUMP.....
