Atwood AC with Heat Pump

When we first got our Isata 3, I really didn’t understand the Atwood (Australian design) and kept thinking something was wrong. I mean on AC, the blower never stopped? My home AC goes off and on, why would the Atwood not go on and off?

After much research I found that it’s the way it’s designed, kind of like putting your home thermostat with the fan “on” instead of “auto”. The compressor kicks on and off, but the fan keeps running.

We just finished a 2,500 mile trip to Colorado and NE Utah where the temps regularly got down to the low 40’s at night. I put the Atwood on the mode that switches between heat pump and AC and set the thermostat at 72f. The furnace never was used the entire trip. The Atwood performed great and switched from AC to heat pump during the night without any issues.

I see a lot of folks confused about how the Atwood works and just wanted to post how well it did. In fact we had zero issues with anything during the two week trip while setting up at 7 different campgrounds.

We leave for Sedona, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion for three weeks on Sept 6th. We didn’t get to use the RV much outside Texas the first year and now starting to make longer trips.
