Axles Weighed
I had the chance to get each axle corner weighed this past Saturday, only took about 10 minutes.
I have a DX3 37TS, it was fully loaded, I topped off the water tank, the black tank showed 1/3 and grey was empty. Here are the weights.
LF-5,000 lbs RF-4,650 LR-9,350 RR-9,000
The front axle is rated for 12,000 so combined I'm just under 10,000 so no problem. For the factory tires (275/80R22.5) the indicated inflation would be just under 90 psi. I run mine at 85 psi because most of the time I'm pulling a 28' trailer with 1,000 lb tongue weight. With the trailer hooked up it would reduce the load on the front axle a little so 85 is just right in that case.
The rear axle is rated for 21,000 and combined I'm at 18,350 so again OK. With the trailer hooked up I am still under the combined rear axle load as it would go to 19,350 with the trailer tongue weight added. I inflate the rears to 95 psi which gives you 5,070 per tire or 10,140 combined each side. 90-95 is recommended in this weight range for the factory tires so just staying at 95 whether or not I'm towing the trailer is OK.
No earth shattering news but nice to know I'm at the right psi for the way I operate my rig.
Total weight of the rig was 28,000 and its rated for 33,000 so plenty of CCC weight still available. Even if I maxxed out the tongue weight to 2,000 I think I would have to load barrels of lead shot to get close to the maximum weight. Nice to have a big HD chassis!
