Thought I'd go back to the original question The Chassis battery drains to almost zero when the coach is sitting even though plugged into 50A plug. That's what I'm trying to correct.

I wish that I could think of all of the combinations of tests at one time. I just tried the LED test, this time with the ignition on. I now have the two green leds as you suggested. Therefore it must be all OK.

Now the acid test will be to just park it in storage, plugged in, and see if the chassis battery holds its charge. The difference would be the new solenoid.

Stay Tuned!!!

Yes, so all that you just described is normal.
Did you read the bird "theory of operation" second paragraph.
It seems that your chassis batteries could be bad.
What is the voltage of the chassis batteries? if they are below 13.1 the relay
or solenoid in the picture that you have will open and there will be no charging of the chassis batteries.
You may want to pull them and get them load checked. Maybe you have done all of that, if not look there next.

I believe when on shore power the controlling batteries for the solenoid are the coach batteries. If the coach batteries are above 13.1 volts the solenoid will energize and if the coach batteries fall below 12.6 volts the solenoid will deenergize to prevent draining the chassis batteries. It's an opposite scenario when the engine alternator is doing the charging. I am not saying the chassis batteries are not bad and I don't have a B.I.R.D in my unit. I also don't know why the solenoid is called an isolation solenoid instead of an interconnect solenoid which is what it does when energized. Oh well. Hope you get the issue worked out.

Went to run some more tests this morning and EVERYTHING was perfect!! The BIRD had the proper lights on, the chassis battery was equal to the house battery, the solenoid was energized. I'm packing my mess up.
Many Many thanks to Ken, Gordon and Joe who helped with very important contributions to resolving this problem. And Joe, the chassis batteries were replaced last Nov.
