All it took was one trip on the salty roads in the winter to cause corrosion on the battery tray, battery tray frame and supports.
So I labeled everything and pulled the batteries then the tray.
I took it to a local welding and coating shop that does great work to have it zinc and powder coating. Went with textured since there was a lot pitting. The bare metal picture is after sand blasting and zinc plating.
While the tray was in the shop I took a wire wheel to the support frame and coated it with POR 15.
I also double the battery power by added two more AGMs!! Yay baby!!
Used all stainless hardware when reassembling the frame and tray...even the rivets are stainless...FYI you'll need a heavy duty riveter for this. I'm just waiting for the new straps with stainless buckles to arrive.
Looks a lot better now. Before it was kind of embarrassing for me to open the door in front of anyone.
The guys that did the plating and coating told me that now days if you drive on treated winter roads that your underside will start rusting in a few days if you don't wash off the salt and chemicals.
I added a mud flap in front of the tray to help keep the elements away. I want to add protection underneath--just haven't decided what to use yet.
