Bigger Air Horn Location

So, I got rid of that sissy little horn and just got my monster, beautifully polished horn in the mail, and it is LOUD. Like really loud, which is what I wanted. I hooked it up to a portable air compressor and it got the neighbors dogs barking 60 acres away! Problem is, it's 25" long and the business end is 7 1/8". Anyone else put something like this on? Any ideas as to where to mount it that won't deafen the passengers and eject the dogs through the roof in a Goose-like-fashion from Top Gun? I'm tempted to mount up top but do not like the idea of drilling unnecessary holes in places - guess that comes from my maritime upbringing...I mean these things break like boats, but don't sink

I'll post a before and after too when I get it done in the next couple days.

I put these on to give the horn a bit more testosterone. 152dB. They fit in the same location as the OEM wimpy horn.

Hahaha! I just came back up from the shop to edit post, found that they do fit in the same location!

Thanks for the pic, it looks like the same company but I got the single big trumpet big-rig sound style; they say 150db as well..we'll see though as I've got horn envy now haha.

The factory one just looks like it's epoxy holding it down and a persuader bar and leverage ought to pop it right off. How/where did you mount those? I was just thinking of welding or epoxy a new mount on for the new one. Looks like you found a place other than the factory black bar it was originally on.

I saw one the other day under the bed. Bell just barely visible below the bottom of the bed.

I have a friend who put a diesel train horn on his flatbed wrecker cab, sounds cool. Sheriff how lives kitty-wampus across the road told him not to use it in traffic. Bummer.

Shultz, where did you get those? they are awesome. should just connect to the air line right, no need for a compressor.

Halla,

I have the single, which I believe to be the one that is the same sound of a big-rig; the triple I'm pretty sure is the train horn sound. My single looks the exact same and yes, I just plugged mine into the existing compressor line the factory plastic one used and installed in about 10 minutes. Check Air Horns Of Texas, I called and told him what I had and got just the horn. If you order, you won't need to get the extension, I got it and didn't need it. https://www.airhornsoftexas.com/coll...ruck-air-horns

Mine is mounted between the frame rails by the propane tank, invisible from exterior. Mine is a five horn from Hornblasters and it fit in nicely. Put my switch is on dash.
I kept the other two horns, totaling three ways to get someone/ something's attention.

I have a separate air tank for just those horns. I would never tap into my air brakes lines because these large horns would deplete your brake tank rapidly. The Hornblaster kit comes with its own air tank and compressor.Click image for larger version

Sorry for the delay. I was watching Penn State blow an 18-point lead. [emoji22]

Amazon: MPC H003 (0934) Chrome 3 Trumpet Air Horn https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KRO3HS6?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

I bolted them using the vertical metal strip that has the hose mounted to the top. Hammer and chisel pops the OEM one off real easy. Click image for larger version

Back in the 60's I ordered a set of electrical trumpet horns for my '62 Chevy from Warshawsky & Sons (now JC Whitney). They would play three tunes, DIXIE, BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC and LA CUCARACHA. They were cool for a while, then I grew up.

I am confused. Why is this post turning into a negative opinion forum.

Yeah, well, there are a plethora of people that would say the same thing about the coaches we own too. Come on man, what are these things besides a big toy? Someone wants to put a big horn on a big toy, what do you care? Skip the thread.

And btw, why are the only two negative guys here towing fivers? Are you guys lost?

Anyway, my horn now makes the floorboard vibrate

You might think that until you have a set of them and some A$$HAT starts to merge into your $185,000 RV. This thing gets their attention IMMEDIATELY and leaves ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT who's airspace they are violating. It exceeds the volume of any of their Bull$#!t loud music that they might be enamored with while not paying attention to the road or again, your $185,000 Motor Coach!!! They have 100% saved my coach from being merged into by a triaxle dump truck outside of columbus as well as several cars in the midwest as I am ALWAYS paying attention and hyper vigilant when driving it.

I mounted my set pointing straight down right behind the coach side door stairs. By pointing it down, it keeps the water out, as well as gives the sound 360 degrees of acoustic control of your airspace.

I've used the 5ers twice, once to encourage pronghorns to vacate the interstate and the second time to encourage another group of pronghorns to turn from running onto the interstate. No vehicles or pronghorns were harmed.

I made a custom switch to put on the dash matching the other switches.
I told my wife "A H" stands for "air horn" but it could stand for something else lolClick image for larger version

I think we had a customer send us a train horn a while back. The XL has roof mounted Hadley air horns. Looks good as well as being functional.
