Black Tank collapse

I was taking my DX3 in for some warranty work. Suddenly I SMELLED a VERY foul odor. Checked everything, no leak or spills, went to the nearest dump station and dumped, the odor persisteded. I checking all the bays and when I opened the aqua hot bay, it looked like a sewer bomb went off. The shop determined the tank collapsed? My question is how would this happen and has it happened to anyone else?

A picture of where the tank collapsed would be helpful, I noticed our gray & black tanks sag a lot over the aquahot bin also. I Placed a carpeted support in the aquahot bin at the pass frame rail. Not sure if it is necessary, but makes me feel better than seeing it sag.

I have seen situations where tanks were over-filled. The tank swells and pushes the vent/drain UP....in some cases a lot. Then then emptied, the tank can then drop back to its original shape and pull off the vent.

No indication the tank was overfull. Utilizing SeeLevel indicator and visual observation, no signs of overfill. Everything was fine until it I moved the RV 50 yards.

You don't say where you are located. Any chance the tank froze with contents in it? That could possibly crack it.

Not a chance of freezing. I was near Phoenix, when it happened. I had been staying in a pasture, boondocking, for 10 days by myself. Temps never lower than the 50s at night.

Blacktank update

I just recently got the RV back. But, according to the mechanic who repaired the collapsed black tank, the bracket was not fully secured. So when I moved the RV, with a fairly full tank, the weight transfer of the liquid caused the bracket to come lose, thus allowing the tank and all its contents to collapse onto the Aqua-Hot system. Just a side note: The Aqua-Hot DOES NOT like sewer, nor liquid of any kind dumped or spayed on them. All external parts including control panel had to be replaced.

I did not put two and two together...but I was reviewing your units for a part issue and came across the pictures. The dealer was kind enough to have robbed parts from a stock unit to get you on the road...which I think was great. They were being a little "vague" in their parts request, I don't think they wanted us to know they had robbed parts. But I got involved, let them know I applauded them for robbing parts and expedited parts for their stock unit.

I already showed it to engineering and production and checked everything on-line and everything else looked fine.

The tanks are held up at the ends with a small metal tab. I appears that your tab only had one lag bolt (not two)and that one pulled free somehow. Missed backer maybe? (something someone should have immediately noticed if they put the lag in place)
