Bluefire avg fuel mileage gauge on 2021 Force-Detroit DD8

I'm new to Bluefire but did a lot of reading here before purchase.
I've been unable to seemingly get an accurate avg fuel mileage readout.
I tried a few of the stock dashboards with avg fuel mileage on them and that always says 8.1. So I created a custom dash with only one gauge, avg fuel mileage, and that always says 8.1. I sent a support request into Bluefire and Mark Frederickson (Bluefire tech support) asked for some screen prints which I provided but haven't had a response. He originally said the data should come directly from the ECM and I shouldn't have to fiddle with it. I asked him, and he didn't specifically respond, that it seemed to me there needed to be a RESET button on the avg fuel mileage, or you'd be averaging for ever. Every car or truck I've had of recent, including my Isata-5, had an avg fuel mileage RESET. I don't know how the avg fuel mileage is calculated on the ECM. Perhaps its different on the Detroit, as compared to the Cummins ECM.

I have found on my bluefire that you have to start a new trip for it to reset. I do this and it gives me updated information for that trip. I was getting the same readings as you before I started doing this.

Dennis. Since I am not at my Force, am I assuming correctly there is a Reset Trip button available on the Bluefire app?

And, does that reset your A and B trip odometers on the M2 dash?
Or just the avg fuel mileage?
thanks

There is not a “Trip Reset” button, per se. You have to click on the “Trip” icon then end the current trip and start a new trip. Not as intuitive as it could be, however once you do it the first time, no problem.

It does not have any effect on your dash trip odometer.

I am on fence between bluefire and scangauge I know scangauge is a much simpler display, but have read about some odd things with bluefire. Does the Alpine? stereo run Android OS? I have an Android tablet that could be used with it maybe.

I had the Scangauge D. Sold it and got the BlueFire. Way more information on one screen and it’s in color. The Scangauge has a lot of info but the screen is small, only 4 lines of data and no graphics at all. Plus, you have to cycle through multiple screens to see the other available information. Wouldn’t switch back from BlueFire now. Just me. I know some folks love their Scangauge. It’s all good, that’s why they make chocolate and vanilla.

BlueFire screen example attached. You compare it for yourself.

Thanks for the screen shot of the Trip icon. Never would have thought to look there.

2X on the Bluefire vs Scanguage. I run the BF on an 8" Samsung tablet (Android OS). Many cool pre-configured Dash displays to choose from. I'm just experimenting with making a custom display which takes some practice.

I'm also trying to get the display to format on the Samsung split screen mode, so I need more of a vertical vs horizontal layout that i haven't perfected yet. But I usually do run my Samsung tablet in split screen mode with BF on one side, and RV tripward GPS on the other side. Then I run Waze on the Samsung phone so I have three displays to look at. It's pretty cool.

I've attached a photo of the layout before I had the Bluefire. I ran Google Maps on the phone on left, TripWizard on the left side of the tablet, and Waze on the right side of the table. Now I'm running BlueFire on one side of the tablet.

Not sure why the photo came out sideways.

Awesome, thank you all for the input, may I ask what model of Bluefire you have?

Is there an EGT gauge? Do you have to add a thermocouple?

Don’t the answer to that one. Never searched for it. Now I’m curious.
