Brian Battery problems 2015 REV RB

On going battery problems.

Currently it will not switch to battery when the AC power is disconnected. I have taken the drawers out to access the electrical systems behind them. I found the left side of the silver Cole Hersee relay wire was loose from the lug. Also it was not hot to touch like always. When I took it off the back wall, the left wire came completely out of the lug. I replaced the lug and reinstalled the Cole Hersee. It is now getting hot to the touch and the bar to the left (bird) led's are now working.

Still if I turn off the 120 circuit breaker, all power goes off.

Our July trip to Ohio, sometimes we had battery power and sometimes not.
Two days ago I accidentally hit the battery cut off switch (It's just above the light switch) The steps wouldn't go back in. The battery cut off switch isn't switching the black battery cut off relay. I can short from the 12 volt power junction to the right side of the cutoff relay and get it to change state, but not with the switch. The switch is in working order and the wires are connected to it.

The battery disconnect is KIB Battery Disconnect Latching Relay #LR9806CBIP

I'm stumped.

What part auto switches to battery for the lights when the 120 power goes off?

Thanks in advance

I took the Cole Hersee relay off the back wall and the wire on the left came loose. It was replaced under warranty a couple of years ago. Apparently the lug came off and they put a new one on. Where it was clamped around the battery wire, just came off. I bought a new copper lug and soldered it on the wire. I put it all back together and it seems to be working.
One trick was to take off two of the spacers below two of the drawers. This allowed me to get to the back where all of the wiring is. I bought a flexible screwdriver attachment from ACE hardware that allowed me to remove the pocket screws that held them on.

I still don't know what switches from the converter 12 volts to battery when you loose 120 volts.

Typically there is no switching from the converter output to battery or battery to converter output. They are connected (wired) in parallel. There may be some switching inside the converter but nothing external. With shore power the battery can be disconnected and 12 volts will still be on the unit or removing shore power with the battery connected 12 volts will still be on the unit.

I have the same fundamental design question on my Dynaquest XL -what “device” senses the disconnect from shore power and switches the coach batteries as the source of power? Is this a built-in function of the inverter? In my case the issue is a long delay before this switching to the batteries occurs when shore power is disconnected.

Here is a simplified internal diagram of a typical converter with internal switching. Notice shown with no shore and/or generator power applied.

The inverter just passes 110 through to the inverted outlets and then when shore power drops starts its job inverting. If theres a delay I'd be looking at the inverter display to see what it's doing

I think that I actually found the problem that I have been fighting with for over a year. I bought a new Cole Hersee from Amazon. While I waited for it to be delivered, I decided to remove the old one from the wall, so I was ready when it arrived. It is hidden behind a wall of drawers. When I unscrewed it from the wall, the red battery wire on the left side was left dangling in the air. The dealer had replaced it and used an undersized connector that didn't even go all the way around the wire at the crimp.
I think this bad connection caused all of the many problems. Including the coach batteries not fully charging.
I have a 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter connected to the coach batteries and they never showed all bars on the readout, but they do now.

I can now disconnect 120 volt and everything stays on. Plus hit the battery disconnect and it works and comes back on.

Thanks for all of the replies.
