We don't say "feebie," we say each letter: F-B-I.
Acronyms are letters which are pronounced as a word, like PITA (Pee-tah) or NASA (Nah-suh). When you say just letters (such as T-L-A). It's an abbreviation not an acronym at all.
Now, now let's not be so picky. When I come across a new acronym- OOPS, I mean abbreviation, I take it as a challenge to decipher. I wonder how many I can use at once? My MIL and FIL like to drive their MH with the FWT full, and a smart car as their TOAD. DH and I like our 5ver with a GMC TV but no WDW because we have an Anderson. BTW, MIL & FIL own SOB. Am I being a PITA? No, remember I am SWIIC, at least IMHO.

When I first joined this forum I remember wondering...

Is my TT an RV? And how the heck do I pull it with my TV? Does it have to be on channel 3???? I understood TP, but who are they calling an SOB?

I kill me....

Thanks in advance.

I've been poking around here for several years and learned a lot, but even in these replies I've learned a few abbreviations that were still puzzling me.. Thanks for asking TrailWayz!

I run across abbreviations I don't understand all the time. I have pretty good luck finding what they mean on google.

It hardly rises to the level of being "rude" because somebody doesn't understand shortcuts. After all, this isn't a major metropolitan newspaper or a legal brief. People take shortcuts in their personal and professional lives all the time with no intention of being "rude".

Miriam Webster disagrees with your definition of Acronym.

Definition of acronym
: a word (such as NATO, radar, or laser) formed from the initial letter or letters of each of the successive parts or major parts of a compound term
also : an abbreviation (such as FBI) formed from initial letters : INITIALISM

I agree with you and was criticized for making a similar post on Forest River forum.

These forums can be useful for newcomers, and most of my posts are intended to inform others or solve problems, so I try to discipline myself to spell out an abbreviation the first time I use it.

But there are lots of heavy users on this forum who like to use the forums for chat, and the acronyms are convenient for them. That’s fine, as long as they aren’t trying to inform new users.

Two of the oldest acronyms I know of, SNAFU and FUBAR date back to WWII.

Thank you for that. In high school, I had an incredible English teacher. My former wife and my kids called me mister spell. Sometimes I am appalled at spelling, grammar, and syntax on the forums I visit these days. Maureen Mahoney (my teacher) is surely rolling in her grave.

I disagree that it’s rude. Forums have been around for many years. A quick google search pulls up most common forum abbreviations, plus they have a sticky here for this forum. It would be a pita to pretend everyone is new to internet forums and then type every word out considering how many people post from their phones. You will find a wide variety of posting styles but almost everyone uses common forum abbreviations. This one is very informative and has many helpful and definitely not rude members.

My MIL thought lol meant lots of love. She would end every text or email with lol. We finally figured it out when texting about a death in the family and she kept signing texts off with lol.

Half the emojis I can’t figure out so I end up only using a few.
