Chassis Batteries 2018 Isata 35DS

I was under the assumption that when the unit was stored with shore power, the Inverter/Charger not only kept the coach batteries charged but also the chassis batteries and when driving the chassis alternators charged the coach batteries. After checking on our unit after 6-8 weeks being stored I discovered that the coach batteries had a full charge but the chassis batteries were totally drained and dead. Am I mistaken that the inverter/charger should have been maintaining the chassis batteries as well or not? We had a persistent problem getting the coach batteries properly secured and before they were finally corrected, shifting batteries in the tray ripped out the wiring of the solar charger and I am wondering if the dealer didn't connect the cabling correctly.

The BIRD should be charging ALL batteries while on shore power. Sounds like an issue with the BIRD.

Check to make sure the chassis battery connections are tight, mine were loose and caused starting problems and they weren't charging either. The connects were not even hand tight.

Unhappy

Thanks, I currently have a couple of battery tenders charging the batteries and hopefully it will start after Christmas. I didn't notice any loose cables but it sounds like the first place to start. The coach batteries have been the only significant issue we have had with the unit other than the standard newbie problems which were as much operator error than malfunctions, but we were only able to get three trips and 4,000- 5,000 miles in during our first eight months of use. On our second trip, and first long haul. we discovered that the batteries where never secured in the battery try from the factory. After the first hard stop the batteries shifted forward and ripped the wiring from the solar panels out but it appeared that everything else was working. I managed to repair the wiring of the solar panels but the dealer had the unit for 4-5 weeks to repair a minor water leak and few cosmetics items that should have been found during the make ready but all they did on the battery issue was to add a simple strap across the two batteries in a tray designed for four. Needless to say this failed on our next trip and they then finally designed a hard bracket to stabilize the two batteries preventing them from sliding forward.

Even though there is a two year warranty on the coach I want to avoid returning to the dealer for any future service since they deal in weeks not days and being a 100 miles commute it isn't worth the aggravation for anything minor. I guess it is time to get the voltage meter out and start checking to find why the chassis batteries aren't being charged. Thanks for confirming what I thought that I understood was correct.

I have that same tray and filled it up with two more batteries and two straps, so far so good, nothing is moving around back there. I also moved the locking door handle from the Generator compartment to the battery compartment. Casual thieves are more likely to steal batteries than to unbolt and cart off my 8kw generator. We had nine batteries stolen from travel trailers in my storage yard this past month.

Our solution to the two batteries in a four battery tray was bolting a 2" angle iron piece in the tray against the two batteries which stop any forward movement and a single strap to prevent the batteries from bouncing. You would think the manufacturer would have spent another $5.00 to prevent the headache and possible damage to the batteries.., Thanks for your reply.
