Does this price for Mercedes Schedule A Service seem high or about right?

Just had our first Schedule A service done at a local Mercedes dealership and the cost seemed pretty high based on what was done, since I thought Schedule B was supposed to be the more expensive service?

Not a huge deal either way, just curious because if this seems too far out of line, then we'll try the other Mercedes dealership in our area next time.

I realize of course that all of this would be much cheaper doing it ourselves, but mostly just want to see if this is way out of line or about average as far as dealerships go?

"Schedule A Service" - $532.68

+

"TS Filter Insert" - $36.95

+

"MB Genuine Engine Oil" - $103.87

+

"Adblue" - $34.50

TOTAL - $708.00

Out of curiosity, at what initial mileage does this schedule A need to be performed?

That is crazy expensive. When I had my Isata 3, the Mercedes dealer in Boerne, TX charged $299 all inclusive for A service and I think $499 for B service (which includes the fuel filter). I put about 5,000 miles per year on my unit and had it serviced annually since that is far less mileage than the 20k in the service schedule. It’s 20k or 1 year whichever is first.

That Mercedes dealer sent out coupons each year before my service and I got $300 off the B service.

IMO seems high. A full service on my DX3 is 450. Includes all filters, oil, and lube. Inspection of all Freightliner systems for proper operation.

Seems outrageous since it’s basically an oil and filter change. I change my own and it’s very easy. Much easier then most cars. The only thing I would recommend is you purchase an oil filter socket. You can get them at Amazon and there not expensive. I would caution you to use a torque wrench on the aluminum oil pan.

Quick Trip

Service A is check filters, top off fluid and change oil. Went to a quick trip, $158 for the oil change. Bought my own cabin filter. Reset my own service reminder. Service B include a fuel filter with oil change. Will find a mechanic shop for that service.

That seems very high especially since the major part of service a is the oil filter and 12.5 qt oil change then it looks like you are charged again for the oil and filter.

Seems high but that's exactly what my first oil change was. I was a bit surprised.

I changed the oil and filter myself. Bought the oil on sale at NAPA. Filter from Amazon. $90.00 for the whole job.

$780, that’s about what I paid last year. It was outrageous and I’ll shop around next time. I used a Memphis area MB dealer, not again!

I paid $687 three years ago. Ask them if that includes the Fuel Filter change. Mine did as the manual said to change it yearly. Been lots of discussion on whether this is required. Since then I have done all my oil changes and fuel filter changes for much less. As stated NAPA has Mobil One 0W-30 ESP on sale occasionally. It usually runs me about $250 per service and is pretty easy, just be careful around the fuel filter. Easy to break fitting on the Leak Oil Line (ask me how I know) I do mine yearly and usually have about 12K on it when done. I elected to have Transmission Fluid and Brake Fluid changed at 25K as I always tow a Jeep and Transmission runs pretty hot 200 to 230 degrees as per my Ultragauge. That ran about $650.

Price is right.

I use Walter’s in Riverside, CA. That is what I pay for Service A. What you save in fuel mileage, you pay in service. For us, the MBS is well worth it. We love ❤️ our Forest River 2015 Forester MBS.

I shopped around as well. Doesn't have to be a MB dealer. Many RV dealerships can perform the same Schedule A/B service. Apparently it depends on what they sell and service. As an example Camping World won't service a MB Sprinter for A or B service (at least in my area) but LazyDays does. Not that they won't repair anything else with a Dynamax but the engine is a specific deal. Lazydays will perform A service for 294.00 (again in southern AZ). As others have mentioned you can purchase authorized and approved spec'ed oil or even go all out and purchase MB oil itself with approved filter and do it yourself for way less than the above cost. First time out many do go to a dealer or MB dealer for this as they don't want to mess it up for the warranty but in reality it can be done by yourself and still meet warranty coverage. Just have to reset the timer back to the 20,000 level. As Milkman mentions many RV'ers don't hit 20,000 miles in any reasonable time that most would change the oil so the 1 year or 18 month allowance (at the extent) is also used for an oil change barometer.

By the way, Mercedes oil is made by Mobil 1.

The good news is it is only every 20,000 miles/one year... get your money’s worth and drive that baby!

Seems like we have been mostly doing the A service/oil change at the 15000 to 18000 mile points... the service folks always ask if we want to do the fuel filter, (we have had service at 4 different MB shops, and this seems to be the company line) and we most always say yes. Oil change is usually in the $300 neighborhood, and the filter is $180-$220. When you add in all the shop charges and taxes, the total is usually north of $600.

FYI, we have visited the MB shop for warranty work 2 times (rear wheel sensors), with the third warranty trip coming up this Wednesday for both front airbags. Add to that 1 A and 1 B service (1 oil change was done when doing one of the wheel sensors), and a serious MB shop wheel alignment, makes for a total of 6 visits... they consistently offer super quality coffee, hot chocolate, and snacks. I fear this will not be the case on Wednesday due to the Pandemic.

Keep on RV’ing!
