DX-3 Lugnut Torquing

Do any of you check the torque on your lugnuts, if so what do you use? In reading the Freightliner owners manual, it appears that they require 480-550 lb ft torque. That’s more than double the capacity of my largest torque wrench.

Northern Tools is one of many sources for a torque multiplier.

GO to a tire shop or a truck shop and have them torqued.

Big trucks require big stuff !

McGriff Truck Tires in Decatur Ala. use a "click" torque wrench that is nearly 4' long. They use air powered impact wrenches. At Northern Tools, a similar wrench is $500, on sale.
I've decided to limit my DIY activities on our Grand Sport GT to RV items & consult professionals for truck work.
I've found that folks in truck shops love to help me & work on GS. The techs & drivers come over to look @ GS & tell me what a great & beautiful truck it is. I say, "thank you very much"

Be wary of truck shops. Les Schwab for instance. I have witnessed them using a 1600lp air wrench (spline mount 1") to tighten the lug nuts on trucks. Wrench was turned up full. no torque wrench involved.

the tech says that's the way we do it. I told him to loosen the lugs and use a torque wrench after I got the shop manager the lugs were tightened properly.

Use a torque multiplier from harbor freight.

Get a better torque multiplier than Harbor Freight. Bought one and I can't loosen the lug nuts on my Ford Expedition.

That's the WRONG way.

The right way is: impact wrench running @ less than final torque; manual torque wrench for final torque.

Watch the techs work before they work on your truck. Watch them work on your truck. Know what they should do. Ask questions if you don't see what you want.

Good comment.

A Torque wrench , after calibration , will install lug nuts properly.

The cheapo torque multipliers are great for getting lug nuts loose , even after years.

The hassle is only a few are accurate enough that their x6 or x10 ability can be used with a small torque wrench to get the proper tight torque.

Either a 500lb torque wrench or a GOOD torque multiplier set will be about $500, and those big wheel sets are heavy!
