DX3 & Force roof mounted box awning

Well I started to give my rig a well deserved washing, as I was on the roof scrubbing it and the fiberglass bulkheads I came up to the awning and something didn’t look quit right. I haven’t seen or heard anything about our Carefree Colorado Mirage awnings so I reviewed many of their technical documents online and nothing directing me to do x, I was thinking maybe I need to adjust the motor “in” limits. Has anyone noticed this with their awning if so what was the fix? It looks like I have another 2” it needs to come in.

Thanks David

Yep, noticed mine this morning sticks out almost the same amount as yours. Haven't dug into if its an adjustment problem.

Maybe Brian can give us some in-sight.

The Force doesnt have the same awning, Force and Force HD still have the arms on the awning, no cassette.

There is a discussion on here from a while ago about the Force awning. There are blocks/shims at the top that keep the awning out from the body. One of the owners on here removed them and added more bolts. Dynamax and Carefree stated this is the way it should be installed with the shims.

I have left mine alone.

Ah....I just posted on Vans other post about getting a picture of the little retainer that always holds it out, Now I have multiple reasons. Let me see if I can catch the tech before he leaves.

OK...well not pictures but I think I got what I needed. He says there are two scenarios, both being adjustments.

1. If the whole thing stops coming in, the "IN Stop" might need adjustment. He says if you are up on a ladder and watch it come in...if it just stops, then it is the in-stop. That is at the ends of the awning.

2. If on that same ladder, you see the leading arm of the awning retainer hit the pin...it can be too low and get hung up there, stopping the awning from coming in. This is due to the pitch adjustment. The awning can sometimes settle too low and so when coming back in the angle of that lead piece catches on the pin and the awning thinks it is closed. In that case, you would have to adjust the knuckle on the awning arm to decrease the pitch.

Good Stuff.

I've been meaning to dig this up on the USB drive after the comments regarding my DX3 awning post this weekend but haven't gotten around to it yet.

This confirms that a) I need to adjust my out limit switch as my arms are not fully extending and b) that I need to adjust the pitch on one or both ends. I think Randy and Walt mentioned both items.

I was going to make an adjustment to the motor limits “in” but it’s too wind here, I try when I return home from Dove De. I post what the results are.

Just wanted to give my update. Making the “Limit In” adjustment corrected the gap pictured in my post, very easy to do. Towards the front on top of the box awning there’s 2 button plug, remove the farthest on for “Limit In” I made 1/2 turns then tried it out then in a couple time and 2-1/2 turns was the ticket [emoji106]
I’m thinking the same for someone who’s awning is not opening up all the way, just keep track of how many turns in case you need to go back.
