DX3 Brake Pedal Squeal

Our 2016 DX3 has a squeal when pressing anytime on the brake pedal. I took it into Empire Truck Sales in Biloxi, MS that works on Freightliners. They heard the problem but had no solutions but a tab to the tune of $150. They also said it shouldn't have any bearing on braking. I'm not convinced and a bit troubled by this. I'm guessing the problem is probably in the braking air system but I have no idea where? Any thoughts on this from the peanut gallery.

Is it an air leak squeal or a brake pad squeal? If the engine is running and air pressure is topped up, if you are not moving and press the brake pedal and you still get the squeal then it is probably an air leak. Have someone keep the brake pedal pressed so it keeps squealing and get down underneath and locate where the noise is coming from. Take a spray bottle of soapy water and spray where the noise is, you should be able to find it quickly. It could be one of the air pots that operate the brakes or a connection.

If it only squeals when you are moving and press the brakes, it could just be rust build up in the brake drum from sitting all winter. If it doesn't go away after driving it and applying the brakes solidly 4 -5 times, then it could be a small rock wedged in the brake drum. If it keeps happening have someone pull the drum off and look for a foreign object in there or see if the brake pads are dragging or need replaced, How many miles does it have on it?

Treadle Valve Air noise, not uncommon. Do a DOT brake check to assure no leaks in the system.

DX3 Brake Squeal

The Treadle Valve was replaced in Ocala, FL's Freightliner Service center. Noise was reduced by 85%.
