The original rear view camera was not working. I wasn't sure if it was the Kenwood head unit or the camera. I decided to install a dedicated rear view camera system. I prefer to have a screen that is completely separate from the radio or GPS so It can be viewed at any time. I purchased this one
First I started by removing the the old camera an disassembling the over cab trim to get the existing hardware out.
I chose a hard wired camera system for better reliability, knowing that I would have to run a new camera cable. I fished the new cable from the camera down through the rear cap past the left taillight and then underneath through the frame rails.
I then found a good mounting spot for the monitor.
Put the trim back together and give it a test

I intend to do almost the same except I can use the existing rear camera and I will mount a mirror mount monitor in the location intended for a CB radio in my DX3.
I agree, don’t want cameras on my GPS screen.

I thought it might be good to install 4 cameras and a dvr system for security reasons while boon docking. I believe It could be set up to stream and store video in the cloud. I dont know the actual amp draw of a system like that but, a solar system could likely keep up with it fairly easily. As long as we had good cell coverage we could log in and check on the dogs while we were out hiking or trail riding. In the end I decided to go with the simple back up cam because most of the places we go have little to no cell service.

That is a cool place for the monitor. can you still get your sun visors down?
yes...just barely. I checked, double checked, and then I did one more time just to be sure lol. One tip though. Before you drill holes through the headliner material, take an awl or nail and heat it with a cigarette lighter and burn a small hole so the drill bit doesn't try to peel the material off of the backing. Oh BTW the reading lights are still relatively easy to operate.

Finally finished my camera system. Installed a second monitor in the location intended for a CB radio. I can still control the camera images from the Infotainment system. Now all my camera video is going to the #2 monitor.
I can use my blinkers and GPS simultaneously.
I can switch the triggers for the blinkers on or off.
