Electrical Gremlins
Help!!!!!! On the road from Texas to Maine and started having electrical issues. If generator is running, engine will not start. Turn off generator and it starts right up. Any ideas????

Could be a number of things..
Look for a breaker in the house battery compartment. If the flag is showing the breaker has tripped.
Could also be a dead battery, What is the voltage on the Chassis Battery?
Also check your house batteries they are they dead?

House batteries are fully charged so onboard charger is working. Went ahead and replaced chassis battery with new OEM AGM. Started right up. Then started generator and tried to start. All the usual bells and lights but when key turned to start, nothing. Turned off generator and engine started immediately. All breakers fine. Everything electrical works well, not sure source of gremlin.

So the only difference I can come up with is when generator is running, charger is on and chassis battery is receiving charge. What I can’t figure out is what difference that would make.

My guess would be the BIM somehow cutting power from the chassis battery?

I think the BIM 225 is a possibility. Considering disconnecting chassis battery from BIM until I can replace. House batteries won’t be charged going down the road except for solar but plugged in every night and chassis battery will only be charged by alternator but driving every day. Thanks

Does the engine start if you are on shore power, generator off?
This might help determine if 120V related or generator related.

Have not tried that either. I asked bclemens if there was a lockout for either genset on or shore power connected, thinking that the issue may be related . He told me there are no lockouts for either situation. This is one reason why I own a Dynamax. The GM is available for answers. I will try and see what happens.

when the generator is 'running', it is producing 120v power, and sending it back to your Breaker Panel, which should have absolutely nothing to do with your Vehicle's ENGINE, or the IGNITION.
Although, when you look at how a motorhome is built, there are several things that sometimes 'combine' these two systems together - the AUX or EMERGENCY START switch, usually located on your dash. This provides you the ability to COMBINE your Chassis AND House battery banks to help start the Vehicle's engine, or the Generator, when either battery bank might be low, or not able to on it's own, since they both use DIFFERENT battery banks to start each.
I'm wondering if there is an inline device that is somehow not working properly when either the generator or the engine is already cranked.
