Fuel prices - how to save

Not sure if most you know know this, but you can save 20 to 70 cents a gallon by simply NOT getting fuel at the truck stops. Drive a mile or 2 off the highway to a regular gas station.

Yes you will have to maneuver around to fill both tanks but for me it’s worth $50 plus savings. Heck I do that with my DX3 abs 25’ trailer. $50 is $50!

I probably shouldn't share this but I know people that work in gas stations and 9 times out of 10 when they have a drive off the police won't even bother.

Although that's only if you can find a gas station that isn't pre-pay only. They are few and far between around here.

Don't know of any stations either around me or encountered in my travels that don't require pre-pay. Either card at pump or leave cash/card with cashier before pumping.

As for avoiding truck stops to save, ironically the best prices within a 10 mile radius of my home are at the truck stops. Next best are the gas stations on Indian Reservations.

Interesting. The spots I’m talking about are Utah, Colorado, Nevada. Although just did the same in Missouri and saved about 30 cents a gal.

Or just sign up for TSD open roads and save the 50 cents AND get all the convenience of the truck stops and paying at the pump. I was skeptical but in most cases the volume pricing does end up cheaper.

you can often save 10-20 cents a gallon by buying all of the fuel you need for next week TODAY... the biggest problem is storing it until you need it.

I have found recently that one of the best ways to save on fuel is to find good camping spots closer to home. I always used to think that I had to travel a long way to find good camping spots and assumed that if it was close to home, it couldn't be any good. Recently I have been looking around closer to home and I have discovered that I was wrong. I have done a bit of research and talked to fellow RVers and found a lot of great sites that I can get to and back on less than a tank of gas. Just my 2 cents worth.

As soon as I start thinking about stopping for gas I ask DW to start looking for gas. She uses Gas Buddy to look along our route. Sometimes we can save .10 to .20 a gallon by driving another mile down the road of by driving a little off the highway.

I have TSD Open Roads - substantial discounts. Another one I use is called Mudflap - don't have to share social security number (was nervous about that with TSD, but no issues), can tie it to a debit card or a bank account (additional $.02 savings)

gas buddy app. Diesel prices in my county, range from $4.89 to $5.65. An almost every station has an app that saves you from 5 cents to 10 cents. I like the Marathon gas app. 11 plus phone number. after you sign up for it.

I agree with those using the TSD app. While at home, or getting ready to leave on a trip, only have one truck stop within 5 miles, but worth it to make the trip. With the discount they are even cheaper than Sam’s Club or WalMart with their discount. When empty can I can hold 100 gals. so .30 to .50 a gallon adds up fast.

ps. The TSD discount only works for diesel
