Gate Valve for Stinking Slinky

Was in the wet bay to add the SeeLevel sensors this weekend. Got that done and also added a gate valve on the hose side of the macerator. Reason being is that the hose gets waste water into it as we travel. The 1.5” opening sits about an inch or above the bottom of the box. So excess liquid gets into the hose and stinks up the compartment. It also makes it tricky when hooking up as well. If it sits long enough it may even deep out of the end...even stinkier!
Since there was enough room to glue a new fitting on I just cut the ABS elbow off. With that came MPT fitting and the straight gray threaded fitting.
Then I added the gate valve, new elbow, new MPT fitting and new gray 90-degree fitting.
Could’ve just pointed the elbow up, but that would’ve counteracted gravity draining for gray water when we’re hooked up. Having the valve also helps if you ever need to remove the hose for any reason.

Glad to hear there was enough room to just cut off and glue on. That was the route I was planning to go. Until I found my 90s...that I still have yet to install...

Thanks all. I liked how it turned out, so I thought I'd share. Thought others may be having the same challenge as well. One little trick...put the threaded elbow into the MPT fitting before gluing the MPT fitting onto the elbow. This way you can turn it to the exact angle you want while the glue is still wet with the threaded elbow nice a snug in the MPT fitting already.

This gate valve should be factory installed. Dynamax, are you listening.
Great job from a Sunseeker owner.

That’s a beautiful solution Andy... I was considering just adding an elbow to direct the effluent hose toward the compartment port but your idea is much better. I’ll instal the valve when I get home; my grey valve vibrated open about 3 days ago and I’ve thought of using a bungee cord when l find a store. Your solution is far superior..!😎

Thanks Dennis! I didn't know there was a Bluetooth version when I ordered mine...if I could sneak it by spousal budgetary supervision.
Otherwise, I may have gotten Bluetooth. Other than seeing the fresh water level from outside while you're filling up, I'm not sure if I see the use for it...is a cool option though.

I wonder what happens if you forget to open that gate valve and turn on the pump? How about testing that for us? I'd rather not put a gate valve on from the factory that no one knows about (everyone knows gray/black) without seeing the effects of mis-use.

Any other suggestions how to stop the smell? I have installed the same valve on my last 3 units with no problems. Never tested without the valve being open. I will get my DW to check it out on our next trip lol

I like that Andy I think that will help myself as I have a cam-lock fitting on my hose with caps and when I’m done on the next trip when I remove the cap from the stinky side there’s a vacuum created and when I break that seal I’m very cautious if I see fluid 🤢 plus elbowing it down you can actually use that removable hatch to have the hose exit....nice.

Thanks Dave. I was considering the cam-lock fittings as well. One set for the RV hose and another set for the hose I use when I clean the tanks at home. How are the cam-lock fittings working for you? Which ones are you using?
