Install light on back wall
Where are the supports at the top, on the exterior back wall of the 28ss? I want to install a halogen light on the wall...want to be sure it will be secure. It weighs about 5lbs. Maybe the outside fiberglass is strong enough...I don't know...
Similar to this... https://www.larsonelectronics.com/pr...l-chrome-color

I would use a good stud finder to locate the studs. Something you might consider is the same style light in LED to limit your power consumption and heat generated when on. JMHO

I tried a stud finder and it didn't pick up on anything. I don't know if the panels are foam with fiberglass or if there are actually studs. It could be the fiberglass is too thick that the stud finder isn't effective.
I have used this light for 5 years now..it is REALLY bright...and yes..it is a power hog...but I only have it on for short periods.

The stud finder works on density doesn't have to be wood aluminum will show up. Get a good stud finder not one of the magnetic type.

I have a Zircon stud finder...don't know if that is what you mean by "good" though...

I need that with a built in camera!
Also excellent for the high beam driver behind you.
Wait, can you get a speaker so I can have mature conversations with tailgaters?

Here is the back of ours. Not a lot of structure back there. The benefit of a laminated wall.

Yes...and that is what he was showing you.
Look at the condensation lines on the rig. It shows where there is aluminum tube. He is giving you the perfect structural print. Cross braces at the corners, framing around the door and framing right at the top where the cap screws in.
Doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks. What I mean is the thickness of the fiberglass on the outside. Trying to figure out how much strength the outside wall fiberglass has.

Have you thought about mounting it on the roof? i'd hate to drill through my fiberglass.

You bring up an interesting thought. My one concern is that the light on the top would become a branch trap and get torn off.
BClemens, what are your thoughts?

Perhaps. Do you not have other roof mounted items though? And if you're already drilling and sealing mounting holes, you could always mount a shroud for protection.
Just my 2 cents

This is being mounted in the very back of the rig. There really isn't anything to protect it. I need it to point down at the tow vehicle area...I use it to light up my bass boat when rigging in the dark and for launching. I also use it for when I pull/backup into a campsite in the dark. It isn't really for just general lighting up areas and such.
The angle support at the very top of the wall can be used with the L shaped mount that Larson provides...
A shroud is a thought though...

Yes, I figured as much. Keeping it tight to the back on the roof would eliminate any cut off or shadowing from the roof line. There would be plenty of beef there to mount to as well.
Neat looking light though, haven't seen a remote controlled one before.
