Isata 3 suspension upgrade

Isata 3 CB owner, 1.5 yrs, 30k miles. Very frustrated with ride performance. Very harsh, noisy and fatiguing to drive. Weight is near maxed out in rear when empty.

I will invest in a legitimate suspension upgrade that works for relieving weight problem and improving the ride rather than take a big financial hit by selling.

Tried Sumo Springs. They broke. New Michelin tires. I had a rear wheel fail at an inside weld point (presumably from being over weight), and have lost two hubcaps and other parts while driving Midwest Interstates.

This is a last ditch plea before selling the unit.

You might get more responses in the Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chassis sub forum Here. Hopefully someone will have some experience with chassis upgrades, beyond Sumos, in that forum.

30k in 1.5 years, is a lot of driving. Could be some suspension parts worn out.

Yours would have the Bilstein and Helwig...both of those are upgrades from stock. I would for sure check pressures and maybe look at the springs.

It has never been any better than it is now. Looking for referral for suspension upgrade. It came with weight maxed out.

What is the Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) listed in the door frame?

What broke? I have the Sumos for 15k miles on front and back without issue. I have the black ones on the back, but they have yellow ones that have even more support. Sorry don’t know the part number for the yellow ones.

I have the black ones, SSR-338-47. They slip right into the bracket holding the OEM bump stop and sit right on the axle. Nothing to break.

I know you said most of your issues were the rear, but the front Sumo, SSF-106-40, help stabilize the chassis when going over uneven surfaces.

We have the sumos front and rear - we feel like it was an improvement

Having said that, we are on a cross country trip; Washington to east coast and back - still going east right now but we lost both rear hubcaps to the POS roads in Nebraska 🤬

We have a Sunseeker 2400R which is on the same Mercedes platform. We have Summo Bump Stops in the rear and we are running about 500# overwieght , mostly in the rear.
Here is what we did before taking a 3400 mile trip to the Canadian Rockies. Mercedes of Santa Rosa did a special alignment that entailed adding adjustable Camber bolts. Then we had all six wheels rebalanced at our local tire shop. Still have the crappy Continental tires now at 20,000 miles and next year will switch to Michelins. Anyway the ride was changed to smooth and the rig tracked straight and was easier to drive. i have now eliminated almost all rattles so it was quiet also. Never had any of your other problems though. Good Luck, I know your rig should be able to run properly.

SOrry to report or maybe not '' I have a 2018 Isata 3 with over 30000 miles on it and the first thing I did was change tires to Michelin's after I drove OEM's from Indiana to Anchorage Alaska(home), then have driven from here AK to Houston, to Orlando to Lancaster Pa , to Maraposa then back home, lost 2 hubcaps in the south, changed to the aluminum wheels in Indiana on the northern part of the trip (great wheels , expensive. NO coach problems after the initial shakedown trip of 5,000 + going home. So I have to say a great coach on many variable roads. Some of the interstates and local (ALCAN ) roads do give the coach a test. I drive on the freeways 70 or below (conditions) and find that on bad roads 60 or below or when towing my boat (21 ft Phantom Sport john). average 14-16 mph. Sooooo just saying knock on wood,, travell safe.

I have four Hispec aluminum wheels that were option from the factory at $1,417 for the set. The inside rear are steel.

It appears the Alcoa aluminum after market are $1,600-$1,800 for four plus install. Give all the reports of hubcaps coming off these Sprinters along with noise associated with the wheels, I think the aluminum is a good investment, especially if you are already changing the tires and can avoid a cost to dismount and remount all four tires.
