Isata 3rw Diesel generator won’t start

Generator hit 175 hours today and promptly quit running. It was doing a fine job until I went to dump today. On the way it quit running and now won’t start. Replaced fuel filter and that didn’t help. Any ideas? Cranks over fine it acted like it ran out of fuel. Tank is full, the fuel hoses look ok from what I can see.

Man....you had such a good run going.

I have not heard of this one before. LP gen? Or diesel?

Diesel. I’m thinking it may be a pickup issue in the tank since moving the coach seemed to start the problem. I’m guessing you guys add the generator pickup to the tank. If so is it possible that it became dislodged? Can you show me a diagram of the fuel line and pickup setup? Your right about the great run. 40,000 miles and many many nights camping and no issues. Great coach! It may be an Onan issue anyway but with diesel issues it’s best to look at fuel supply first.

Not knowing which model you have my comments are based on the Onan 8k diesel generator I have.

There are cut off switches for low coolant and low oil pressure. Check coolant and oil level.

The generator will display fault codes. Pull out the manual and check for fault codes. Codes are listed in the manual.

there have been many posts about the onan supplied fuel pump failing and needing to be replaced. but most of these posts mentioned a gas (not diesel) generator. i do not know if they use the same or different fuel pumps. but the test is to disconnect the fuel line and try to start the generator (prime it) to see if you get fuel flowing out of the line.

You may want to check the fuel filter if you have not changed it before. If it becomes clogged you will not get enough fuel. You may have moved some trash from the tank to the filter causing the issue.

I'll see what I can find out. You sure you had more than 1/4 tank? and that the slope was just causing it to dip below that 1/4?

It’s almost full of fuel, it’s barely moved off the full mark.

My 2019 Isata 3 Series 24FW has an ONAN PROPANE GENERATOR. Open the generator bay door and reconfirm if it is propane or diesel.

I diagnosed it. The electric lift pump has power and ground but it won’t run. I will order a new pump when I get home. We’re only dry camping for 2 more nights at Jetty Park then moving on to Anastasia State Park in St. Augenstein. We will have electric there so we’ll be ok. Solar keeping up for now and can run the sprinter if I need to supplement or run the slides. Thanks again for your help. The diagram you sent was very helpful.

Glad to hear you’ve diagnosed your problem.

On another note.....I thought Jetty Park was in St. Augustine.

St. Augenstein......what Ethnicity is that, where that town is?

FYI finally got around to replacing fuel pump yesterday. Generator runs just fine now. Easy fix. Purchased an airtex fuel pump from Amazon. Direct fit, identical to OEM pump. I will purchase another one to keep as a spare. I have used airtex products in the past and been very happy with the quality.
