Isata 5 2x4 versus 4x4

On the I5 with 4x4, other then the advantage to getting to places to boondaock that would be more difficult with a 2x4, and driving in snow, are there any other advantages to 4x4. I have never wished I had it to date, just wondering if I am missing any other advantages. Thanks in advance for your replies

The way I looked at it - it was better to have and not need, then need (or want) and not have.

I bought the 4x4 for resale reasons and it was hardly any higher cost. The two posts above were what I was thinking at the time.

4x4 chassis also seem to be in short supply vs 4x2. Not sure if that has changed, but when I ordered my 4x4 in mid-Dec, they were just about out of 4x4 chassis.

Avoid tearing up wet grass, pull off road where there is sand and not get stuck, spinning in gravel...

Isata 5 4x2 versus 4x4

I had the 2018 Isata 5 4x4 36ds and the ground clearance wasn't much different than the 4x2. Good for driving in snow over mtn passes. Not so much for off-road. Now have a 2020 DX3. If I was looking for a change now I would totally consider the Isata 5 28' with polar pac in 4x4. Due to weight considerations the I 5 4x4 36 ds is not really a 4 season coach. It can be done with mods.

Thanks all as I'm researching 4wd versus two. What is the difference in fuel mileage?

Ken, The Ram has plenty of power. I was getting 11 mpg averaging 62-65. Towing my wrangler unlimited it was 9.5 mpg at 55- 60 mph. Take another mpg on mountainous routes like over and back on Donner Summit to Cali.

Agree....my results almost mirror yours. I do average 10.1 pulling my Smart car on a Aluma trailer.

The 4x4 has a heavier weight rating on the front axle also. It may be negated somewhat by the addition of a transfer case and related 4x4 drive train components.
