Isata 5

I have had my Isata parked and plugged in to 20 amp outlet for about 2 weeks so the battery's would stay charged. I checked on it today and nothing would power on, all systems were off including Plex panel. Steps worked, LED light to tv antenna was lit and so was the light on the cap of the power supply outlet outside.

I unplugged the 110 and everything started to work on 12 volt, had to wait for Plex to reboot. I plugged the 110 back in and there was a pause in power, the panels for inverter and solar were flashing errors, lots of beeping them it stopped and returned to normal. Check a few hours later and everything was fine.

What happened? Does the system shut down after a specific period? Is there a way to boot it back up? Just seemed weird...

Also, tried to fire up heater. The thermostat up front won't power up. The rear does but won't start the heater. I here the solenoid click, propane is on but nothing happens. It's supposed to get cold the next two days and I haven't winterized yet. Tried that too, turned valve behind toilet to by pass water heater filled with antifreeze and water heater filled too. Read there isn't supposed to be anti freeze in water heater so I flushed everything and called it a night for now. What am I missing?

Vrunner, I posted detailed winterizing steps I use for my Isata 5 36DS in another thread. The bypass for the Truma water heater is behind the water heater with access by removing the bottom fake drawer front ( 2 screws). I don’t know what valve you are referencing behind the toilet. Read the Truma manual on winterizing the hot water heater.

The heater blower should come on first before the burner lights. If the blower is not turning on then the burner will not light. Get out the Heater manual and review the steps on not burner not lighting.

There is a valve to the right of the toilet that I was told during my PDI was the bypass. It is behind a faux panel that is fixed with a hole in it. Click image for larger version

The heater I suspect is due to the dead thermostat panel. I did review the instructions, no info on a dead thermostat. Truma references 3 valves, obviously this is based on how each manufacture plumbs their units, not all have bypasses.

My unit doesn’t have a panel by the toilet with a valve. So a design change. As you found out, this is not the water heater by pass. Normally the by pass is plumbed in at the hot water heater with 2 bypass valves, one for the cold water inlet and one for the hot water outlet. Remove the false drawer front behind the water heater and take a look.

2012 ans 3012 are in the same owners manual. Settings should be the same. One is just 2000 and one is 3000.

If you are plugging into a 20 amp outlet, you need to make sure the Xantrex is set up that way. What people seem to not realize is that the Xantrex is a power management system. NOT just an inverter. It also handles your 110V power loads and battery charging. So if you have it plugged into a 20amp outlet and it still thinks it is on a 30 amp outlet, wired things happen. Go through all the settings and make sure they are set up the way that is listing in the troubleshooting guide. (other than incoming amperage)

And whatever you do DON"T push the red button that looks like a power button. That puts the whole system in "safe mode". You have to enable and disable the inverter portion through the menu.

I followed the attached instructions but don't have a settings menu that shows amps, batt, etc... I can enable or disable AC, inverter, set stand by and cascading. No other options. Now on the Plex screen it does allow me to select 15/30/50 amp. I have the Plex set at 15 currently. There is no draw other then maintaining the batts.

Bill, do you have a pic/location of the bypass for the water heater? Obviously the one in the bathroom isn't it.

The original units did not have a water heater bypass. Here is where we are today.

Interesting. My early production 2017 has the bypass installed per the diagram.
