isata 5 and adding DEF

I am getting ready for a long trip and wanted to make sure the DEF holding tank was full. When I took the cap off I noticed that the opening is quite small. I have ordered a flexible shaft funnel since I don't see another way of getting to the filler tube. Any isata 5 owners who have a novel solution for this?

Long funnel. We've been trying to extend that, but its on a metal bracket (so we have to cut and weld, which is fine), but there is some confusion on what we can use for DEF hoses as they will not reach. So funnel it is.

Many thanks.

Most def bottles come with a long flexible nozzle.

the Walmart branded DEF in the BLUE 2 1/2 JUG comes with it's own flexible funnel... BUT it's best to use Two of the funnels, one in the other, to get the opening up high enough that you don't spill def while trying to hold the somewhat heavy jug at that height...

$7.88 at any Walmart, back in the automotive OIL and FLUIDS section, usually on the bottom rack... look carefully and don't accidentally pick up the wrong item, many look very similar...

I've always used the mopar def in my ram.
For a couple reasons.
I can get it locally. ( no wm here)
Also, the def system is notoriously unreliable. Especially in colder climates. By using the mopar brand, there can be no blame game.

How about just using truck stop DEF at the pump?

Not sure what the 5 looks like exactly but I just stuff the pump handle in my DX3. Saves wasting plastic bottles to save the environment too

The pump nozzle is not long enough to reach the fill tube. It's a bit awkward.

Are you specifically referring to the system on the Ram 5500 chassis?

Huh that's unfortunate.

But yeah I bought this funnel on the way home after spilling the first bottle all over mine

Great deal on Lisle - 17232 at ToolTopia.com

I'm referencing the def system as a whole.
In any vehicle that uses it.

Truck Stop?

Why not just drive to Truck Stop on the way to your camping destination. They have pomps dedicated to DEF and it is MUCH cheaper than buying it at Wally World or an Auto Parts store. The hose should reach and you will be able to "top it off"

The DEF fill tube on the isata 5 is located behind the drivers area. It is the standard tube that came with the chassis and when the sides are added it sits inboard of the side by about 10 inches. No nozzle from a pump is long enough to reach. It would be possible to fill from a pump with a long funnel but it is almost a two person operation.

DEF lasts a long time

I have 4,500 miles on my Isata 5 and have used less than half of the DEF.

The long narrow funnel is not all that inconvenient for the occasional refill.

Unfortunately the dealer did not fill my DEF holding tank. The manual says you could drive as much as 2,000 miles before the needle moves off of full. My needle was already off of full when I picked up the vehicle. Got 2 1/2 gallons in It today.
