Just when you think you are alone in the world (Ram RVs that aren't Isata 5s)

Yesterday, I was on I70 westbound in Kansas (just west of Hays) and what do I see coming at me on the other side of the highway? ….a Ram based RV….and NOT an Isata 5! I was floored! I had never seen or heard of such a thing! I caught the name on the front cap and it was a “Born Free”. It was short and had curved walls (ala’ old school Dynamaxs) so visually it looked very strange, but that’s probably because I am used to the look of the Isata 5. Google has turned up this picture for your viewing pleasure.

It also got me searching for other Ram 5500 based RVs and I found this crazy unit…..

First thing that hit me on this unit is the Tag axle! “who the heck is putting a Tag axle on a Ram 5500?” is my first thought. Apparently THESE guys are as a $14,200 option and even proclaim that it’s “way overkill” for what they are doing.

Another interesting thing is the fact that it’s a slide-in style camper. As in, they build the living quarters separately and the Ram is a flat-bed and the camper slides onto the flat bed….

It’s REALLY expensive, but the concept is pretty cool. Here’s a link to their website:

Luxury Motor Coaches by PowerHouse Coach

Anyway, just random stuff rattling around in my brain after thinking Isata 5 owners were alone in the Ram based RV world.

Now that is innovation. 4 slides too with 2 of them in the tall bunkover. Weird pocket door slides. And built in Idaho!
Back in 1999, I built a custom F550 to carry a Lance camper. If this Powerhouse was available back then, one of them would have been in my shed.

The wife and I looked at one of these rigs at the winter RV show. It was a Cummins diesel and 4x4. It is made by Dynamax.
