Kenwood radio install.

Just upgraded the factory radio in my 18 Force 37ts. The factory radio had the rand McNally gps. The antenna cord end is a round pin. The new kenwood with garmini a square. Is there adaptor available or am I running the new gps antenna cord to the roof???

Are you talking GPS antenna? If so, I used the one supplied by Kenwood with the radio and just mounted it in the center of the dash up against the windshield. Worked flawlessly on my last two trips.

Hi Joe. Yes GPS antenna. Was just concerned the overhead Bunk may affect the signal, but maybe not a problem.

as MoJoe stated, mount it on top of the dash, center, right up against the glass. We have an HD, no issues with it and the cabover.

Thanks guys for the info. Will go that route. Just figured out my intermittent awning problem. Dirty contacts on 2 relays in the wet bay. Cleaned them up put on die electric grease and all is good. Not sure the thinking behind relays in a wet bay. Going to pull the other 8 (don’t know what they control) and do the same to them.

Halla,

I am in the process of installing a Kenwood. How do you suggest routing the antena wire to the top of the dash?

Are you able to get the cameras to work on the new radio?

I just ran that wire with the gos box towards the windshield, mounted it with double sided tape on the top side. Bad part is you have to unstick it every time you want to remove the dash top.

Kenwood radio install.

What halla said.

And yes, cameras are plug and play. Just put the new leads into the connections where you removed the old ones.

So we just had the kenwood installed. Can't leave rear camera on while driving, a few of you said you set up another monitor for that? What did you use, where did you run the wire etc. Thx

You should be able to leave it on. Hit the menu button then hit the camera button on the top row of selections. On mine the camera stays on that way.

My Kenwood is now installed. For the camera to work, I had to use the setup before it would work. Now, each time I start up, I must use the menu button and click on camera. All three cameras work as with the Sony. I have two problems, perhaps someone has a fix:
1. When I signal, the sound for the CD player is interrupted.
2. The video for the rear camera is not as brilliant as with the Sony Radio.

Any help appreciated.

Installed the Kenwood upgrade and windshield camera earlier this year. Works great but still looking for a feature to turn up / down the volume with the speed of the vehicle. Please let me know if anyone figures this one out.

Regarding the gps antenna, xm antenna and the camera wiring.

- xm module will simply plug into the new Kenwood

- places new gps antenna in center of dash. Brought wire around center edge. Barely noticeable.

- ran camera wiring across top trim, down left A-pillar and through dash to the Kenwood head unit.

Also... upgraded dash speakers, ceiling speakers and installed the Bass kit / amp when I did the install. Easily the most appreciated upgrade we have done to date that makes our driving more enjoyable.

Will try that, but the installer told us they had to cut the "harness" and install a new one to interface kenwood to our vehicle so the cameras would work correctly. Everything else was working fine but rear camera wont stay on with kenwood installed.

Didnt read on here where anyone else replaced the harness

You do have to cut the harness and use the wires to attach the Kenwood harness plug. But, that is just matching color for color, with the exception of the red and yellow power wires. In my install, and several others the red wire goes to the yellow instead of red to red like you would think. I believe I have that correct. Once I reversed the power wires everything worked like it was supposed to. Search "Kenwood radio Initial Setup Finish never goes away?" It's explained in detail in that thread.

Cameras were plug and play. No harness issues.
