Light Bar in Place of Fog Lights

The headlights on these units leave much to be desired for night driving. I bought an LED Light Bar from Amazon to replace the yellow fog lights. After removal of the lights and metal plate I tried for hours to figure out how to mount the Light Bar in the existing fog light holes. The mounting bolts for the light bar can be outside the light or inside the light, but nothing fit quite right.

I tried to fashion some metal bracket to attach to the fog light holes but this didn't work either.

So I stepped back fro a moment and and thought let me look up. Sure enough there were two holes in the top metal bumper area that worked great. No drilling required. I simply flipped the light bar brackets 180 degrees and mounted the bar up instead of down.

I was getting ready to leave on vacation so for now the existing fog light switch was used for the trigger on the automotive 30 amp relay.

I will switch this and make the trigger the high beam. When I hit the bright light switch I want all available lighting to come on.

We have an idiot kid around here that has one at the base of his windshield on his truck, and he runs around with it on all the time and refuses to dim it to oncoming traffic. It's the most blinding thing I have see short of staring into the noonday sun.

One of these days, he is gonna cause a wreck.

Light Bar in Place of Fog Lights

They are illegal in most states for on road use.

Light Bar instead of Fog Lights

I myself personaly hate these things. I have had so many drivers thinking that they should just drive with them on all the time. When you the recipient of those beams, it is not a good feeling. It blinds you to the point that it could cause an accident to the person being hit by them. I don't respect anyone, or any vehicle ,except Police or Emergency vehicles, that use those things.

For on road use they should be aimed to fill in between the head light and the dark spot in front of the vehicle. Everyone wants to light up the sky!

Restricting the air flow to that cooler might not be a great idea.

I too hate to see them in use on the highways. Have quite a few around here that think they are cool or something to use them all the time. Wish the law would start writing tickets for them.

Thumbs down Illegal

That is considered an OFF ROAD light fixture. They are NEVER to be run on the highways and roads at any time. They are illegal in most all states. Trust me, the first time you hit those and a Trooper sees you, you better have a BIG pocketbook.

I have them on mines and wouldn't think to use them on highway, when I was coming from Las Vegas going through UT area it was dark and their wasn't no street light around for miles so I use them for that and coming into the camp ground until I was able to see with my hid's.

I believe it's industry standard that automobiles and trucks with Fog lights, the Fog lights are shut off when the High beam is active. My F150, 1500 and 2500 were all like that. Turn of HB and the FL shuts off.

I think the HID projector headlight replacement is the way to go. I'd have bought Halla's if the DW hadn't already ordered a set for me for my birthday.
I also swapped the bulbs in the fog lights for LED bulbs. This helps a bit too.
The LED bars are definitely cool and produce a lot of light, but if they are for off road use only then I wouldn't get much use out of them...and sure don't want to put a damper on a trip by getting a hefty ticket.

I've never used them to replace fog lights but have had them on several vehicles as driving lights. They need to be covered when not in use and have to be wired through the hi beam circuit here in BC. As mentioned, use them wisely. Make sure you turn them off as soon as another vehicle shows up no matter how far away they are. I've used them for 10 years and have never had an issue with authorities.
