Macerator

I have a 2020 DX3 with a macerator. Has anyone put a garden hose on the end of the screw on fitting that is on the end of the hose from the pump? Wondering if the pump pressure would force " stuff" out the threads or blow off the cap. Thanks

I have not tried the hose on the end. I did buy a 25’ extension from Thetford to match the same hose.

Not sure I would do that.

Watch the Robin Williams movie RV

Then it is entirely up to you.

I’ve done it many times so I can use the sewer clean out at my house to dump my tanks. The run is about 50 ft. Works like a charm. Takes a bit more time to drain the tanks, but I’ve never had an issue dating all the way back to my Airstream trailer and using an external FloJet macerator pump.

Thanks for the reply's. I think I will fill up the gray tank with fresh water and give it a try. Of course I live in Michigan so it needs to get a bit warmer.

I've also done it several times without issue. Two caveats:

1) As counter intuitive as it sounds, I actually removed the rubber washer/gasket from the female end of the garden hose as it added too much restriction. Even with the washer removed, it never leaked at that joint.

2) This obviously takes longer than normal to dump, so the macerator could be running for a while (especially if you've got a long run of garden hose). The macerator has a thermal fuse that, when tripped, shuts the unit down for 15 - 20 minutes to allow it to cool. Just FYI, so you don't panic and think you've burned up the pump like I did if/when this happens.

Thank you for the info about the thermal fuse. I probably would have thought the same it's burned up now what.

I'd say that's pretty spot on!

That is definitely good information. I will use the garden hose method as a last option I just ordered 20 more feet of three inch hose from Amazon. the campground I was at a few weeks ago the way they had it set up my inch and a half hose would not reach.

I've been carrying a spare 1-1/2 hose as a spare (see the macerator hose replacement thread on that one) and bought a barbed nipple that allows me to couple it and use it as an extension as well. Has came in handy a couple of times. After my last pinhole I bought a 50' roll of flat discharge hose that I'm going to experiment with at some point.
