Manual moving of slide out

I have a 2017 Dynamax series 3. We have been having issues with our slide out. We have always been able to bring it in but I am wondering if there is a way to move it in by hand in case we have a failure with power.

If the slide is out, you have to disengage the slide motors and then push the slide in. I found this video on YouTube:

Ah the nightmare scenario...

I'd be curious if anyone has actually performed this procedure on the Isata 3 and if theres any lessons learned or things we should all be preparing for. (ie having pre-cut 2x4s to lock the slide, etc...)

Yep...it's been done. Check the Facebook Dynamax Isata 3 Owners Group. Matt Beltowski has had two motor failures...the last one when the slide was out. He had to do this exact procedure, and it was not easy, but it worked.

I'm not in that group but it would be great to see if that could be cross posted here. In any case its good to hear there's someone who was able to do it!

He didn't really post the procedure...He just said the motor cannot be removed with the slide out. The gap on the outside is smaller than the diameter of the motor. You have to access the motor from the outside under the slide seal and loosen an 8mm bolt, then pry up to disengage the motor from the slide mechanism. Then push the slide in and remove the motor from the inside. Requires a 8mm box end wrench to get the bolt out.

I have a 2017 Dynamax series 3, are there other brands of power and gearing than Lippert?
I have not had any problems that serious yet but would like to know the process. I don’t have any literature that would identify the manufacturer and mine appears different than the one in the video

The newer RVs have the SlimRack slides. I think the older ones have Schwintek. I'm not sure whether the process is the same to disengage the motors.

Dynamax has never used the Schwintec. Just the Slim Rack, or the LCI through frame slide.

PS the one in the video is Schwintec. They are similar designs. Power Gear made a copy of the Schwintec with the Slim Rack. It was design to improve upon it and give it a greater margin of error, then LCI bought Power Gear.

Hi sdbruin,
I too had the same concerns as you shortly after purchasing our ‘17 24FW in Feb, ‘20. Especially after reading many posts about slide failures and what to do if stranded somewhere with the slide out.

I ended up cutting 3 2x4’s to the right length and stored them in my wet bay in case we had a slide failure but after 6 months I was still concerned about the prospect of a slide failure not only ruining my day but my entire trip and so I purchased a spare motor from Dynamax parts. 2 in fact. Not so cheap insurance, but great for peace of mind.

I have Never had to use them thus far and hope I don’t but at least I have them if needed.

I also carry a spare awning motor. All are fairly small and relatively light weight.
