Mercedes Sprinter Service Campaign/Recall
What's up with the 2017 Sprinter Service Campaign/Recall (Service Campaign number 2018010005)? Received a letter from Mercedes for my Isata 3 (2nd notice....not sure what happened to notice one....), saying I need to take it in to a dealer to have the ECU updated. Failure to do so "could be deemed a lack of proper maintenance". I'm guessing it is related to diesel emissions. My concern is it will kill fuel mileage and performance, similar to what Audi is going through now to bring dieselgate issues into compliance. Anyone received or had this work done?

Too bad on the A/C Andy. Ours has worked great so far.
I’m curious what MB says the issue is

There was an earlier discussion regarding fuel mileage and DEF usage. It was noted the the fuel mileage (all things considered...) and DEF usage varied greatly between Isata 3 owners. My DEF usage was very low but fuel mileage worse than others who used a lot of DEF but got better mileage. I'm thinking that after the ECU modification, my DEF usage will greatly increase. Hoping fuel mileage increases also but have my doubts. The "fix" for the Audi diesels increased DEF usage, decreased mileage and negatively impacted performance, all to reduce emissions. I am not optimistic about the ECU reflash...

I have an Audi Q5 TDI and have the "fix" for Audi Diesels.
I have not seen a decrease in performance or MPG at all as I am still getting over 600 miles per tank, just as before. (32 MPG on mostly highway with some hill driving as I live at 3000 feet)
I have not noticed a major increase in DEF usage so far but it is covered by Audi under my maintenance plan during oil changes. It has a 6.1 gallon DEF tank, which helps.
I have also had two MB ECU upgrades on my Sprinter and have seen no major changes in MPG but did end up with smoother idle and better shift points.
The main MPG issues I notice is wind direction, weight & towing.
Cheers,

I have a 2010 Q7 TDI with the 3.0 that I’m selling back to Audi next month rather than doing the emissions “fix”. Anxious to get feedback from others on the 2017 Isata 3 model change before I do mine.

Does Dynamax have a different ECU than other MBS Sprinters?
I just had my 2016 Coachmen Prism in the shop and asked about any ECU/Firmware upgrades and was told there were none.

My notice referred specifically to the 2017 chassis. Most/all 2018 Isata 3’s have the 2017 chassis I think. Your 2016 could have an earlier year chassis also.

2016 chassis also.. I was surprised there were no updates.
DEF usage is great - close to 5k miles between refills. 15+mpg towing and close to 17 not towing. Don't change anything!!

I am getting around 2500 to 3000 miles on 2 gallons of DEF. However, mileage is only around 14 mpg, but in mixed geography in N. Idaho.

Had Mercedes do the update on Tuesday. I asked if they could give me details on exactly what this update does. No one was able to determine details. All they were able to do is show me what their computer was able to access. This is an update for CDI. Have not driven enough to determine any change, but it seems like it's a little sluggish when you stomp on the accelerator, but I'm not sure if this is turbo lag or a new feature.
On another note, A/C had a leaky Schrader valve. All work was done within 4 hours. Mercedes at Liberty Lake is a first class outfit. They offer shuttle service to all local shops, restaurants, etc... They text status of your service. It was a good experience. the bad part is it takes us 1.5 hours to get there.

2019 Isata 3 on 2017 MB Chassis
Took it in for the ECM update/recall.
30 minutes to complete.
Did not notice any performance decrease after update.
15.6 mpg at 55 mph, 15.2 mpg at 65 mph, 300 mile trip both ways, (was not towing).
To soon to gauge DEF usage.

My rig is a 2017 on a 2016 chassis that we have had since 02/17. Must not have an issue with min as I have yet to hear anything from Mercedes. Will follow this thread to see if more info becomes available.
