Microware Removal Hints?

The microwave in our DX3 crapped out. To be more precise, its just an oversized countdown timer now. So either something is lose in it, or the emitter is dead.

Either way, it needs to come out, but I don't see an obvious way to remove it and the hood below it.

Anyone remove one and have pointers?

Every microwave I've mounted (3 now) has been fastened down from cabinet above it, and up/back behind the grease filters at bottom. And hanging on a bracket that is fastened securely to the wall behind it.

That's what I see here as well. Except, there isn't a cabinet above it to get access to the upper screws. Just a trim board. My best guess at the moment is that the slideout must be in, and the screws removed from the limited space above. I was hoping someone could confirm or had a trick to it.

The Sharp convection oven/microwave in our Europa died after 6 months. The convection worked but the microwave stopped working. Sharp sent us a replacement unit (in less than a week from the call to receiving it in the mail) but wouldn’t cover the installation since it was in an RV. Getting the old one out was easy. The unit is mounted to a lip and held up in place by two long skinny bolts that mount at a 45 degree angle to the mounting bracket. The unit is heavy so getting the old one out and the new one in was sporty. Getting the bolts lined up was an exercise in patience. Btw, as CyberShank said, the two bolts are accessed by removing the filter screens underneath the oven/microwave. You’ll see the bolts, one under each screen.

I was able to replace the microwave in my 32KD.

There is a trim board above the microwave that is wedged into the space. The board must be removed if you are to remove the microwave or replace the carbon filter at the top of the microwave. The trick is finding a place to pry on it without scratching anything up.

Once it is out, there are two L brackets on top that connect the microwave's stock install bolts to the wooden framework on the side. Move the four screws that mount the brackets to the wooden frame and gently rotate the microwave down towards you and off the bottom mounting rail. Conversely, it might be possible to undo the stock bolts and leave the brackets in place, cut I was unable to get one of the bolts lose in the confined space. It was torqued down really well.

The sheer amount of sawdust up there was staggering. It was clear that the hole drilled for the microwave power cable to go through the cabinet was done after the microwave was in place. I known bclemens has stated there are vacuums up and down the line for cleanup, but I'd place a hard bet that no one took the time to use one after the microwave was installed.

GE did warranty the microwave, but their support email stated "...this model microwave is not intended to be mounted in trailer or other mobile locations."
