New Ram service bulletin Issued

Ram just issued a new service recall/campaign on the Ram 3500 to 5500 chassis years 2019-2021 to reprogram the transmission for potential issue. Link below brings up the service bulletin pdf

Thanks — my 28ss was affected

Thanks for posting this! Got it taken care of just before a trip.

One of the reasons this forum is great — preventing mistakes is worth its weight...

What happened to the wheel torque recall? There is nothing out there that offers any information except to say that the owners manuals need to be amended. So I ask amended to say what? My owners manual says 130-160 ft lbs and the Mopar web site says 140 ft lbs - so what's changed?

Not sure if that one apples to our rigs, since it doesn’t come up on the recall website

The wheel torque is just breaking news, so standby for more info.

If you have the Mopar app, you get notification as a recall is posted.

Might be interesting to get WMTire, or other tire expert, on inspecting stud threads for overtorque condition, and how many shops would have looked at the manual to figure out a correct torque.

Thanks! My 28ss is affected. Now I just need to find a dealer in California who can handle this campaign item.

Does anyone know what’s required to complete the software update. My local dealer doesn’t work on RV’s but is open to doing a software update as long as they don’t have to lift the RV.

They just have to plug into the OBD2 port under the dash on drivers side. Surprised they do not know that.

Thanks! That's what I was assuming. I was dealing with a service advisor that may not have been up on the topic. I'm bringing our rig in for the update tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed...

Even though my local dealership (Stoneridge Jeep Chrysler) has a huge sign that says: “We do not work on Mobile homes”, I was able to get the update in about 15 minutes. Just had to park the RV out of the way so the tech could do the update in the parking lot.

Thanks to @tmrut5 for the pointer to this campaign!

That's excellent. You should tell them you're glad they don't work on mobile homes. RV's are a different type of thing, nowhere near a mobile home.

LOL! That’s what I get for typing a reply too fast. Mobile home = motor home. What was funny were the 3 techs who came out to see the RV while the other tech did the software update. I think I sold a couple of RV’s on the tour.

Today we had an appointment at Shultz RAM in Warren PA. We found them via the great service location map posted on the forum.
The service department was very professional and knowledgeable about the software update.
Unfortunately last night, the service department got hit by a lighting strike which shut down their internet connection. Due to that natural occurrence we could not get our software updated. No fault of the dealership and they were very apologetic about it. We hopefully find another service department on our way heading west.

You’re welcome

That’s my closest local service location and I sent that information to the guy updating the map. I live near Erie, PA and the dealers there will not work on my Isata5. Glad to hear the map information is being used. Have mine scheduled for the flash and inspection next month.

Sorry that the storm last night screwed it up for you. The service on the transmission is at least not a critical safety issue (according to the write up).

I had my transmission recall done Monday. Drove around 100 miles that day with noticeably lower mileage as it relearned.
Tuesday I drove it about 19 miles and it seems to be back to normal
