Anyway, I decided that it had to be the cable. Removed the cameras to find that during installation the complicated sealed cable connector had been stuffed behind the camera where the strain on the connector had partially pulled it out of the connector. Its 2 wires, one from each camera to a sealed connector and from there to a small plug-into-plug that has no retention clip. Relieving the strain/break and filling the fissure with hot glue; and taping the plugged connectors together, restored the camera.
Installer need to be careful with these wires. Also noted that there is grommet for the hole into which the cable is stuffed so that insects, water etc are free to enter the coach as the hole is much larger than the cable.
