ODBC connector location?

Hello,
I've got my entire dash apart to install some upgrades but can't seem to locate what should be the easiest connector, the ODBC connector.

Does anyone know where it may be located on an M2 112 XL chassis?

The scan gauge manual say's it's typically located on on one or the other side of the steering column. It's not. It also talks about it potentially being on the passenger side, not, and rarely in behind the ash tray. It's not in any of these places and having looked at the entire wiring harness I can't seem to find it. I can see many types of connectors with no connections but none are the unique style of the ODBC.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. I've even looked in the engine bay since I figured it starts there from the ECU but didn't see anything.

Cheers,

If you mean OBD 2 it doesn’t have one. The Freightliner diagnostic connector is a round connector on the left of the steering column under the dash. At least that’s where it’s at on my 2008 M2 106.

As mentioned the big trucks don't have an OBD. You need a Scan Guage D with the J1939 and J1708 connectors. It's their equivalent and in the spot you'd expect (no disassembly of the dash)

What everyone else said, left side of steering column facing the the floor on our M2 112. Green connector. I had a Scangauge but switched to the BlueFire and 18 months ago.

Thanks everyone. I saw that green round connector and figured that must be the interface. I’ll have to get another cable. I heard about the other product the center console has a mounting position designed for the scan gauge. I’ll try that for awhile. Much appreciated. My bad for not buying the right version. Cheers,

I added a y adapter, have bluefire and scan gauge hooked up at the same time. Both provide different data.

If you call Scangauge they may send you the correct cable at no charge. I ordered the correct one but it arrived with the wrong cable. They sent me the correct cable at no charge, no questions asked. Worth a try.

I used this adapter to connect an OBD port to the J1939/green port in my M2.

Interesting. What kind information do you get when using an OBD2 scanner?

I enjoyed my Scangauge while I had it, but the BlueFire is easier to see the data by using an old iPad for the display and I don’t have to scroll through screens. I never dug real deep into the Scangauge to do a side by side comparison with the BlueFire, so I’m interested in what the difference is in the data you get from the two. Just curiosity killing the cat.

Mainly distance to empty and a few other settings that stay on all the time. I really like bluefire too, just like scangauge for quick glances

I have a scanner/app that can connect to both OBDII and J1939. I monitor critical data inputs - RPM, fuel, oil, transmission, coolant, battery, etc - because I don't normally trust my idiot gauges on the dashboard to tell me the important stuff

In addition, if I get a CEL/code, I can see what the problem is, fix the issue, and clear the code when resolved.

Lots of other capabilities too, but above is what I typically do.

Just had a chat with Scan Gauge and they are going to send me a new one. Turns out the SG II is not compatible even with the correct cable. Excellent customer service even when the issue was my own fault.

Cheers,

Received and installed the correct Scan Gauge D today. All is working perfectly. Thanks for the help. All I can say is the Scan Gauge company 'Linear Logic LLC" is a great company wrt to customer service. Fast, understanding and responsive. They not only sent a new unit they also sent a pre-paid postage envelope so I could send the other unit back. Now that is world-class customer service. Safe travels...
