First, be prepared to spend time going over everything. Some dealers offer an option for overnight(s) stays so you can ferret out any problems before you leave for home. Second, if you perform an online search "RV PDI Checklist" you should turn up some fairly thorough checklists. Use them. Whatever due diligence one should use for buying a house applies here, too. If you live near the dealer it might not be a big concern but if you pick up your unit with an undetected issue and you are hours away......you get the idea. Congrats on your purchase! Don't accept the rig until you are thoroughly satisfied with its' condition.

One idea that someone else previously posted, you might consider videotaping your PDI. You are about to get a lot of information thrown at you, and the video might help later. Took me forever to find my low point drains.
have fun.

Where in Iowa? If you're going to Cherokee RV center in Walcott, let me know how it goes. I ordered from them in Oct, pickup sometime in Jan/Feb.

Ask for their list of what THEY found when they were "prepping" the unit. Then go through and turn EVERYTHING on and off and make sure they work. Spend the time before you sign the final paperwork. Once you sign and accept the unit, everything you find becomes "warranty" work and moves at a snails pace. Don't accept the unit until everything on their list and on your list is fixed to your satisfaction.
We learned the hard way.
Check everything, check it twice. Fill the sink with water then open the drain to be sure the plumbing works, same with shower, head etc. Plug into every outlet and verify it works, then unplug and be sure the outlet is secure and does not pull out of the wall. If you have an ice maker, be sure it works. Check every lock. Be sure that the front door closes WITHOUT having to slam it.
Good luck.

elect jacks work . ? motor missing on rear lippert jacks from rv dealer in san angelo tx. Robbing parts off of rvs sitting that havent sold is common. Buying a used trailer? rust in water heater comp. usually means it has been near the coast. new trailers also. transfering trailers around to sell.

Go into it with the proper attitude. This is a business deal for the dealer and it should be for you at least until you get it home. Have the dealer demo everything and don't accept "it is already winterized so we can't demo the water system". Ask for a ladder to look at the roof. Be prepared to leave without the unit if you find anything you don't want to fix yourself. The RV business is currently busier than it has ever been. Don't accept take it and bring it back later or in spring and we will fix it. It could sit on dealer's lot for months waiting for repair. Once you sign paperwork they have no motivation to expedite a fix. If you find small items after getting it home fix them if you can and enjoy your new purchase.

The PDI checklist aceinspp mentions in his post is under the Miscellaneous Documents header. Here is the direct link: PDI Checklist
Also, you can get PDI check lists from the app store for your smart phone or tablet.

First off I would check mileage. More miles is better, since then you will find more things up that might not happen in the first 100 or so.
I would spend the night at the dealer in the lot. Spend a night, cook, etc so as to find any issues.
Definatly check AC and heat!

This is a good one. While I went around with the individual the wife taped everything on her phone. Came in very handy the first couple trips out.

Go by Wallyworld and get three gallons of antifreeze.
When we picked ours up they said. “The pipes were under pressure from the factory test, thus all is swell”.
And besides, it is February and we have no antifreeze in stock.
Turns out they were correct. All was well.
Next time, I will hand them the antifreeze.
