I love the dealer...I hate fly in pick ups.
Its always rushed. Trying to time the pick up is a nightmare, because delays can and do happen. I had a situation very similar recently where the coach had some issues. Well, the customer says "I never tried to rush the process", but 3 minutes prior said they told the dealer that "if they did not have the unit ready by XXX date, then cancel the order". So the dealer pushed us, got it in the day before and did not do a proper PDI. Customer picks up at night, takes off home and then realizes the 10 minute walk through was not enough and they have no idea how to work anything and there were a couple of things they need looked at. They should have not taken delivery until those items were addressed by the dealer.
Service: That dealer is who you have the relationship with. So yes, you can get it serviced just about anywhere (and we make dealers sign a statement about that), but you get put on the back burner. So you pick up this brand new coach...have a few minor items to attend to, but had to get back home. So you try and get service locally and they're 3-4 weeks out.
The LAST thing this first time buyer should have done...is pick up their rig in the middle of the night, keys left in it and drive 1500 miles. Bad experience all the way around and we get 100% of the blame. Just because you don't know how it works, does not mean it is broken.
Now that the rant is over
Shoot me your last name and I'll see if I can find out where this is in the process.
PS. we don't do factory deliveries. Plus, we are only about a 3 hour drive from a dealer in MI so it would not save much time.
My recommendation to anyone not buying locally. Make sure you get a good walk though. Make sure you know how things work (video if you want). If there is something wrong with the coach you can't live with, make them correct it immediately if possible or don't pick it up. If its something minor, fine...just be aware that this time of year RV dealers are 3-4 weeks out if not more. It sucks, I know....but this business is still pretty seasonal and you can't double your staff for 6 months of the year and then cut it in half the other 6. So you find balance...which means lead times go up starting in March.
