Power outage at eastern rally

Last day of Eastern rally and sitting in RV (2018 Isata 3). Heard a very loud pop and could smell burnt electric "something". Figured this was not good.
Turns out entire city without power.
Surprisingly, when power came back, everything seems fine. A/C works. TV works. Microwave works.
Can anyone think of something else that might have made sound or smell?

That sounds like possibly the capacitors in the converter. All your 120 volt AC stuff will work without a converter BUT if it's smoked all of your 12 volt DC stuff is currently ONLY getting power from the batteries which will eventually discharge and they will not function.........your thermostat to your air conditioner is usually 12 volt DC, so if the batteries run down, you ARE going to lose air conditioning.

See this thread, and especially the last post there for a workaround if your converter did indeed smoke.

It could be anything you haven’t tried yet.
The OP has a motorhome. We are in the Dynamax subforum.

How do you know the smell wasn't from a burned-out pole transformer or the big fuses on it?

Did you notice that the OP said everything seemed to work once power was restored?

1. I don't know which is why I said "possibly".

2, I did notice and stated "If it's (converter) smoked".......and you do know everything will work once power is restored up until the batteries run down with a non functioning converter.

It's the same things that happens when members connect 30 amp RV's to 240 volts and the converter smokes.

If the converter was smoked everything would still work ( until the battery was drained).

I think it's fair to say nobody would do it intentionally, but some boxes in the past have been wired wrong. I know I always check before attaching the power pole to my RV with this type of device:

It is cheap insurance in my perspective, have one in 50A and one in 30A.

I think my converter works fine. With solar I had to check at night.
Maybe it was something outside. That would be nice (for me).

I also got a whiff of burnt electrical when the power outage occurred. It was in the air though, not from our rig.
