Rand McNalley navigator

Changed the chassis batteries in the coach. The navigator/radio is totally dead. Checked fuse in the engine compartment and it is good.
Any suggestions on what to look for??

Are you sure you connected every cable when changing the batteries. I could not get my step to work and found I had missed a cable. Can’t see there would be something specific for the radio but it’s worth a try. Is the radio the only thing that does not work?

I think so. No other problems found. I talked to a mobile rv guy and he thought that there could be breaker in the battery bay. When things went South I had a lot of voltage transients. Could have blown something. He's going to swing by in the morning before I leave town. Maybe this is the excuse I need to get the Kenwood! I'm in AZ at the moment.

Just a thought. I changed the battery in my car (Lexus) once. Apparently the radio was in the 'on' position when the battery was disconnected and triggered something inside the radio making it think it had been stolen. I had to take the car into the dealer where they entered a security code to get it working again.

Hope it’s something simple for you - I agree the le wood head unit is more desirable - just waiting for a good excuse to change mine - had just changed in my previous coach - should have insisted on a swap when I traded - [emoji3]

I had the head unit go dead due to some bad software update. I turned the battery disconnect off over night and in the morning the headhunt came back on.

Already tried that. Didn't work for me.

I would remove the unit from the dash and check you have power to it. I lost power to the 12v receptacle in the dash and never could find a fuse for it. In the end I ran another feed to it. I can’t remember if the radio was affected too. I have the new Kenwood and I love it, but it won’t work either if you don’t have power.

Might have to do that. As of this morning I'm 260 miles away from the rig. Any trick to removing the radio?? I didn't see any separate wiring at the battery except for the steps. It looks like that wire goes to an inline fuse mounted on the wall on the left side.

Relatively easy. You need to remove all the screws out of the main dash cover and take off. You will see the screws that hold the head unit in. Once you remove those you can just pull it out. I’m not sure of the color of the three wires ( one is ground) you need to check. I think Halla posted something with the colors. If not I can send you the manual if it’s an Xite radio.

OK, thanks. I'm going back to AZ in two weeks for Thanksgiving. I think it is the Xite radio. I didn't receive a mamual, at least I couldn't find one. Is it a PDF file?

The connections should be on top of the unit when you remove it, but just in case I’ve attached a photo of my old unit. Hope everything turns out ok!

The automotive garages place a jump start on the cables before removing the battery. The new battery is installed and the cables removed. This is to keep the electronics happy and save all setting i.e. radio presets.

Houston- - Interesting thought, but if all power was removed shouldn't it at least light up when it again got power?

When that happened to me (post #4) you are right, it did light up and ask for a code.
