If I am not mistaken here in NC the Sales Tax is 3% with a max of $1500.00 one time fee on new vehicle plus personal property tax and license fee.

We moved from CA to NC and when I went to register our TT here in NC I had to pay the highway use tax of $250 the property tax was $51 and the plates were $36. This June when it's due I will only have to pay $51 which will probably be less since the TT is older and the $36 for the plates for a total around $87 or less.

So much cheaper for us here in NC then what we were paying yearly on registration in CA which was around $270 per year.

When we bought our used 340RK 5'r in CA, we paid something close to $371 for all registration fees and had our Arizona address on our CA registration. When I finally moved out of CA and back into Arizona, I canceled our CA plates and registered the 5'r in Arizona. $670!!!! And that's for a one year registration only. AZ has some strange things going on as well. If this was a trailer, not an RV, there would be a one time flat fee and a permanent tag issued. But because it is a trailer that can be lived in, I get to pay this outrageous fee yearly, with it going down slightly each year until the unit is basically worthless in the eyes of the state. They are doing the same with my TV. Forced to register it as a commercial vehicle, one year tags only, and the same "sliding" fees to register each year. Three years ago - $700, now ~$400.

So are you saying you live in CA and are going to buy in Michigan ? Won't you have to pay the CA sales tax to get it registered in CA ?

That's like when I lived in PA in my younger years and Delaware didn't have a sales tax so if you bought a vehicle there once you tried to register it in PA you had to pay the PA sales tax.

I was told my sales tax paid in Michigan will get credited to my CA bill.

Do you only pay state tax in MS? No local tax?

Typically, our local 'ad valorem' related taxes are rolled into the cost of the actual tag vs being part of the state sales taxes. We haven't actually gotten or paid for the tag yet, though, so I don't know exactly how it will break out.

AZ is different. I bought a new 5th wheel in CA once for about $70K. Don't remember the number. I was going to register it in AZ. Dealer said ' Not so fast'! AZ doesn't care what I paid for it. AZ goes to their computer and say the MSRP was $132K! I pay on that price. The $132K gets devalued at a rate of 16% per year. So it takes almost 3 years to get the tax value down to the amount I paid.

In TN we pay 7% sales tax plus the local county tax which varies from county to county from2% to 2.5%. My county is 2.25%. Although the county tax is only applied to the first $1600 of each line item. So when I make a larger purchase, I try to get the seller to add up all of the accessories and the large item as one line item. We do only pay the sales tax fee one time, and the tag fee is $100 + or - annually

When we bought in Michigan I had to pay the sales tax difference in Ohio, couple grand to transfer title.

Use Tax is generally an excise or property tax. That means that it can be an itemized deduction on your taxes, just like the property tax you pay on your house. Same as when you register passenger cars. Registration fees aren’t deductible, but property taxes are. So, be certain to check that out.

My DH said we received our registration renewal for our TT - $38.00 for the next year. We paid state sales tax when we purchased it in 2015. No other taxes from the state.

Jeez...I paid 13% sales tax on my TT, which I thought was excessive. Permanent trailer license plate attached, and no further fees from the gov.

Here in ia, just 7% sales tax on the purchase price and for class c units just $88 per year. Goes down a little after 10 or so years.

In Texas, we pay 6.25% sales tax. My two year plates for the Isata 3 were $171 for the first two years and then about $85 per year after that, about the same as my autos. No income tax covers a lot of sins.

The same politician that thought charging you $6K registration are the ones that thought it would be a good idea to legalize marijuana so you will light up and forget about that tax. LOL

With a $6k registration I'd need to "light up" to kill the pain in my back pocket.
