Replacement Mattress for 66.5 x 75 inch "King" Mattress
Our 2017 DX3 37BH came with a 66.5" x 75" "king size" icool mattress.
We wanted a replacement mattress and went the route described below. Sharing in case others are looking for a reasonably priced, easy, comfortable replacement.
We bought a Spa Sensations 8" MyGel Memory Foam King mattress (76"x80") from WalMart online. $236 plus tax with free shipping. Received the mattress in 2 days. We had previously put 3 of these in different travel trailers and found them to be comfortable.
We cut 12" off of the length (so it goes from 80" to 68"), and the new dimensions are 76" x 68". We used a Black and Decker electric carving knife (about $18 on Amazon) to cut the 12" off of one side. There are videos on youtube about cutting a foam mattress with an electric carving knife. It was pretty straight forward. Be careful to avoid cutting yourself or things below the mattress. (You probably will want to remove the old mattress, carry the new mattress into the bedroom in the shipping box, and take the new mattress out of the box in the bedroom to expand. We did that, and then let it expand for about 24 hours before cutting it.)
The Spa Sensations 8" MyGel Memory Foam mattress is about 1-2" thinner than the original mattress, so it slides underneath the headboard, which is about 1" deep. So the 76" dimension as length fits just right when the slide is in. And the 68" inch dimension as width fits fine.
See photos below. Glad to answer any questions.
After two nights on the new mattress, we are very happy with the change. Although the new mattress is thinner, it is more comfortable than the original. No more hip pressure from the wood base when you sleep on your side, as there was with the original mattress.
